movement problems

Movement seems strange and incosistant to me.

I can press the left arrow, sometimes i move left, sometimes left and down.

I press the up arrow, sometimes i move up, sometimes up and left, sometimes left.

I try to move to a square that has somethine in it. Using the arrow keys i can walk arround the square 3 times but can never move into it. It is like the white bishop in chess, i can't get into the black square.

Some times I can use a mouse button and get into the adjacent square i want, other times the mouse does not help either. Trying to figure out if and how the mouse helps movement is so unpredictable that i have almost given up on the mouse. Most of the time it just de-selects my character.

If i move 4-5 squares away from the square i want, i can sometimes move back and get into it.

My char has a movement of 2. But sometimes i get stuck in some kind of mode where every square costs 2 movement points. The squares seem to be clear normal squares. But if i turn arround and move back through the same squares i can go 2 squares / turn through the same squares in the other direction.

Sometimes i can move using the numeric keyboard, with the same problems. Sometimes i can also move using the corner (7,9,1,3) keys. For example 7 might move me up and left, or up, or left. Other times they dont work at all. (The corner keys are not documented as movement keys in the manual)

Yep, I'm seeing the same thing.  Earlier I posted a thread asking for a keyboard way to move diagonally.  But now I realize that sometimes I can move diagonally with the keyboard -- and sometimes I can't.  As you say, using the arrow keys is ... unpredictable.  Sometimes left moves you left; sometimes it moves you up-and-left.  I don't understand it.

The erratic behavior seems like it's been growing slowly but steadily. Under 1.0, I actually had a moment where the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys on the main keyboard (not the num pad versions) worked for diagonal movement, not cycling to cities.

I've posted about this a few times over the course of the beta and never got clear word from the devs about intended functionality. The manual implies no diagonals via keyboard, but then the table filled the page so maybe more are in the plan than are listed there. Given how wonky using the mouse to move can be, I sure hope they will make the keyboard movement work like it does in GC2.

I don't want to get too overconfident, but I'm about 60 turns into a game with the latest patch and 1,3,7,9 on num pad movement seems fine and dandy.

It seems movement with the arrow keys is based on where the camera is facing, if you move the camera so that it is in line with the grid as opposed to on a 45 degree angle you will be able to move the 4 directions. That worked for me, atleast.

End of Mazros's quote

I didn't have to do any camera angle twiddling. The full num pad for navigation just seems to be working well now, at least on my rig.
