[Crash CTD] "DX Error: Invalid Call"

Every time in the first turn, sometimes when moving, sometimes accidentally when the games wants. I'm very disapointed, because I am not able to reach te very second turn.

 

Any more with this VERY HORRIBLE problem?

Have the same error here, though it happens when I try to start a new game from main menu while I already have one running.

In my case, however, it is followed by an error which reads something like "Instruction with address 0x00000000 addressed a memory at 0x00000000. Memory cannot be read", so I gathered it has something to do with DEP, perhaps.

No changes after update. E.g., after recruiting Janus CRASH TO DESKTOP, after turn in tactical battle... really, any moment.

Windows 7 64b. I can't play more than 3 o 4 turns, normally in the first turn it crashes, allways "DX Error: Invalid Call" and the game ends. Do Stardock plan to fix this ENORMOUS BUG, or what coud I do?

Had the exact same issue but it occured after like 30 min playing the campaign.

 

Running on the following specs:

 

i7-860

Asus EVO P7P55D EVO

4GB Dominator XMP 1600 Ram

Sapphire HD5870

Intel SSD G2 80GB 

All the latest Drivers and on Win7 64Bit

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and link the contents into a post here via pastebin. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

The file can be found in My Documents\My Games\Elemental

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug log will be erased and recreated for the new session.

If there was a dump zip created in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic on Windows XP), please post that too.

Happens to me too. Luckily only when alt-tabbing, not while playing. Still, pretty annoying.

This happens every time for me as well without fail. You can avoid it by going to the game options screen before alt-tabbing. Then when you tab back the game won't crash.

Alt tabbing is a known issue for ATI cards

 

You can get around it by playing in windowed mode but keeping the game resolution the same as your windows reoslution

Just REINSTALL WINDOWS only for triying to play this game (...), to W7 32 bits. Perfect, fresh installation. Same CTD in about 45 seconds of play "DX error: invalid call".

 

Conclusion: This game simply doesen't works, so there are two posibilities: fix the game or back the money. Well?

ATI 5800 card with Catalyst version 10.7 (just updated it tonight)

Happens after Alt tabbing and attempting to return to the game. Commit memory at this time was just under 1 Gig.

I found a zip file named: Elemental1_01-2010-08-24T02-06-25-686 in the directory specified but it was 0 k in size so there is no point in posting it.

EDIT: I'm also running into an issue where I don't see graphics for spells during tactical battles. It used to only happen when I was zoomed in and now it happens all the time. Once in a while I'll see part of a fireball's trail.

You should check if there is a .dmp file with the same name too in the same directory. Sometimes the game fails to create the .zip file (which includes that .dmp file and the debug.err in My Documents/Elemental) but generates successfully the .dmp file.

Same here for me ,GPU activity at max 7% mostly just 0% using the 10.8 drivers also,only crash i have now is when i alt-tab and get the DX violation message

I have the same issue. Seems to be worse with auto save turned on, but turning autosave off doesn't seem to help. It almost seems like it happens when two events pop up at once.

Amazingly frustrating. Not only does it crash the game but it completely freaks out my video card, causing me to reboot. Seriously.

I am on 32 bit XP, have an ATI 3800 HD. I really think is lame to have to post to pastebin, that is the sort of thing you do in beta.

I've updated my drivers AND DirectX.

As a side note, this started for me with the second "Day 0" patch.
