Just purchased question on whether to wait a bit longer to play...

So a while back I was interested in pre-ordering the game to check it out early...but was advised against it by a few folks from the forum.  Reason being was the beta was stated as in a very rough state and that it should not be used as a 'demo'.  That was perfectly reasonable to me and I decided to wait rather than get annoyed with too many bugs/ect.

However, I just purchased the game a bit ago since it is release now

With that said I came to the forums once again and it seems like there is an abnormal amount of negativity towards the game due to perceived issues.

Anyways, my question is are these issues real game stopping issues or are people just generally disappointed in how the game turned out vs their expectations?  I don't mind waiting a bit longer to play so should I wait for a patch to get started and if so is there any word on how long that will be?  Or is the game great and people being overly sensitive to what issues may be in the game presently?

Just to explain my position a bit further if I play a game on release that has too many game breaking issues I tend to get a bad taste in my mouth...and even if those issues eventually get resolved it's hard for me to 'clear my pallet' so to speak and enjoy the game :P

Well I'm waiting to buy it for a couple months/patches, but since you have it I think you might as well check it out.

If it starts to feel tedious or unfun then just shelve it until the next patch I guess.

hi revenent... unfortunately, you pose a very subjective question... ultimately, its entirely up to you, but given Stardocks trackrecord, you can rest asssured that they will be patching the game rather feverishly... there is a 0-day patch (tomorrow) i believe...

im somewhat in your boat - im waiting until the game is out for a week before making my purchase, and will get the (hopefully) cumulative updates at that time... will be the longest freaking week, but will be well worth it... ;)

Considering your last caption and reading initial feedback about the balance and other issues, I would say that it would be best to wait a month or so. That way the community can give ample feedback and Stardock has some time to implement the most important improvements and tweaks.

I myself will test the game in a minute and then probably wait a few patches after the next try.

Wait for at least 2 major content patches, so 60 days. If Stardock holds their promises, it should start becoming very interesting around then.

Although I was originally leaning towards buying the game on release I think I'm going to wait now. For me half the fun of playing a game is learning and exploring how things work, and that is so much fun if everything is working the way it's supposed to. I'll have much more fun if I play the game for the first time when it's finished, then if I play an unfinished version now, and then go back later to repeat the same experiences with a (hopefully) completed version.

This game is so much fun you should play it if you have it. Sure it's going to have some niggles but the experience getting there is half the fun. Combat is kewl and the ai is acceptable so far and I'm still on normal difficulty. Try not to read too much into the naysayers they always over react and blow things up bigger than they really are over just the little things. Trust me I'm one of the worlds worst when a game doesn't play like I thought it would. But, I give great credit to Stardock and Brad et al. I know they will fix everything that is broken so why complain? I can understand telling what's broken but don't adlib with game sucks isn't worth the money blah blah blah give it a score of 5.0 etc. Too many trolls can ruin a great experience.

The game is fun, but does have some polish issues. Balance is a bit wonky in some cases, and there's not much in the campaign to help you learn the game (though this is changing for the actual day0 release coming up, we're still in "early" release).

It seems to me the logical solution is: wait for the actual day0 update tomorrow and try it. If you don't like it, don't frustrate yourself and set it aside. After the 2 major planned updates (30 and 60 day, as Werewindlefr mentioned), try it again. :)

Apparently we're playing a version that is somewhere between the gold version and the "day0" version.

I'd recommend getting it now, or waiting a couple of days for the stability issues to be fixed. But this game is a lot of fun. Please also keep in mind that many here in the forums where beta testers and we are used to looking critically at the game to provide feedback. Got to say this is the first game that I sat down to play with pen and paper for that reason. ;)

If you have something else interesting to do, shelve Elemental.  I played for about 4 hours and found it quite a bit inferior to what I was anticipating when I heard of the project well over a year ago.  At the moment, the various game features do a poor job at "connecting," if that makes sense.  I, personally, will be coming back in 60 days.

Hey, it's just a game.  Wash that taste out of your mouth:beer: and go have fun.  I would if I could.  I have to wait for the LE to arrive in the mail days from now.

I, too, will try it out at a later date. It is simply just not as fun as I feel as it could be at the moment. I will come back after a few patches (depending what they do).

I feel confident that Stardock will not rest until this game is up to par with peoples expectations.

Buy it now if you can afford it otherwise just wait and see.

Well, there'll be a patch on the official release day (tomorrow) that fixes stuff. See what people think of the bug level after that comes out.

It needs a little love in the patch department but is extremely fun and playable right now.

Oh so this isnt the day 0 version? Lol

I wondering why it is available today on August 23

I would recommend getting the game right now. Though some aspects of the game is just sloppy eg. the UI. Stardock does have a great reputation in patching and improving  their games.

I wanted to wait a bit to purchase the game, at least till after the day 0 patch. However I just could not stop myself last night. I got it installed and played it for about 3 hrs before I realized the time and the fact my body started shaking due to lack of sleep. I cant wait to start playing today but I got some IRL things to do first.

I do wish there was more of a tutorial, but I did kinda jump into the deep end by starting a sandbox game right away. I still dont know how to generate enough money but I got plenty of other resources.

At this point it is way too early to tell how long Elemental will hold my interest, mainly because Civ V is right around the corner. But even if I stop playing when Civ V comes out I know if I go back 6 months latter the game will have alot of new stuff to play with.

Stop reading the forums (avoid the negativity) and download the game on the 24th with the day 0 patch.

But yeah, I get what you're saying.  As others have said, it's a very subjective question to answer.  I'm a bit on the fence at the moment.  I really like what I've seen and if I had the resolve to wait for another month or two, I would do it.  But I'm weak and I'll be playing it again tonight.

I really need to stop reading the forum posts because had it not been for things I've read here, I would have never noticed and would have been blissfully ignorant of most of the issues people have been posting about.

Ditto!

I'm really looking forward to Civ V.  I hope my expectations aren't too high for that game.  For the next few months it's going to be tough choosing between these two cause they'll fill two really distinct game types for me.  One being the "historical" the other being the "fantasy" civilization / kingdom builder.  With Elemental having the adventuring with quests and even overall campaigns, I think in the end I'll find myself coming back to it.  Especially if the community embraces the modding capability and starts churning out top notch mods and content.

It's a faaaaaaaaake (Star Trek reference).

I think waiting until tomorrow may be the best idea, hopefully can resist booting it up tonight lol.  I do still have some more Laura Croft and the Guardians of Light to play :D

Is there a patch log that details some of the improvements/fixes we can expect?  If it's nothing significant I'll might play tonight...but if it's a pretty comprehensive patch I'll hold off...
