Auto battle?

Need to point out that I'm only a couple of hours into game.

 

My sovereign seems to auto battle sometimes and sometimes I get to control him? I right click on the mob on the tactical map to initiate battle after that it just seems random if I get to control or not. Is there a setting for this?

If you want to always tactical battle, turn down the tactical threshold in the options. By default it only offers tactical battles if four or more units are involved.
