How to play single player?

I got lucky and happened to fly into Dallas for a conference and the Best Buy stores here have it.

Installed and regardless of how I try to run the game it tells me 'Elemental is unavailable at this time'.

I see in some other threads that we can;t get updates but should be able to play otherwise.

Can someone clue me in? I have tried the shortcut, the actual .exe and trying to excecute the autorun by re-inserting my disk and still get the same message everytime.

By the way, please don't flame me. I just spend about 45 minutes digging through threads and trying to search.

Only thing I saw thaqt was official was from FrogBoy himself: basically try to run Impulse after installation and update to the latest release version.

was the beta on this machine and if so did you do a complete uninstall then install...

if yes are you trying to run it through impulse or desk top icon..

edit - nevermind, Kryo beat me to it and the post hadn't shown yet. GG forum caching?

Didn't have Beta. Just bought it, installed it. It installed Impulse. I have a log in for Impulse and have logged in.

When I try to register the game. It gives me some message about 'only serial numbers from impulse are valid' (will see if I can copy and paste in a minute). When I try to run the game it says what I said up top. Impulse shows it is installed in my list of games.

This is really gonna suck if they have somehow disabled the BB versions or something.

Help! Please....

My faith in humanity crumbles the more uninformed and lazy posters I see on these forums...

I wouldn't worry about it and it will be ok.  I doubt that has happened, plus you got a Kryo post above.

That's odd. My faith crumples with every sarcastic jackwagon I see post on forums. Weird huh.

Perhaps you rebuild my faith a little and explain how I was supposed to to derive from that post about updating to a most recent version would somehow explain if I were or were not able to run the game without having to update?

I have one response to anyone who doesn't have the brain-power to figure out what I'm talking about:

lurk moar!

Raider: without update?  That would be the multiple previous posts about uninstalling, then re-installing without having access to the internet.  No relation to the post by FrogBoy on how to make it work WITH internet access.

Yeah, because it's certainly wrong for someone to buy a game and then come ask when they install it and the registration doesn't work for them.

See thats where I am confused. I see plenty of posts about uninstalling the Beta. But I didn't have beta. I don't see any other posts othher than that. Now maybe I am search -challenged or something, but are you saying if I uninstall my retail version. Disconnect from the internet completely, and re-install, I should be able to play? Is that right? I really hate to waste time if I am in error in what I think you are saying.

Also. Thanks Tridus, there are people with compassion and understanding on the internet. I appreciate the help. Apparently some people believe the only ones who should be allowed to enjoy a PC game are ones who spend lots of time on Forums.

I for one would prefer to buy a game, play it and enjoy it, without having to spend the first 4 hours decipering forum posts.

That was how I read it - though I could certainly be wrong!  And no, it makes little sense to me also why you would need to uninstall and then re-install with no internet connection.  It might make sense if it requires you to register a serial number as part of the install process, and for some reason fails to install all the components if the registration fails - but that is the sort of inconsiderate programming I don't expect to ever see from Stardock.  If it did complete the installation of the entire game, then I would think you should be able to play with or without internet access, and there would be no reason to uninstall.

{shrug}  Since you got a response from a Stardock person (Kryo), that is the response to pursue!

It's funny because when I try to access the post, I can't... it's said that this post was nuke and is now radioactive...
