When creating a character how important is it to take spellbooks? 

If you don't take a fire spellbook does that mean you'll never have access to fire magic?

How long would it take to collect all 6 in game if you started with none?

In the beta at least several spell-books could be researched. I believe the spell-books etc have been worked on quite heavily since the beta though. My guess is you'll be able to research it eventually but don't quote me on that.

you can still get the fire spellbook just need to research it and hope to find it :D

I was hoping they took a path like in Master of Magic, and made every spell school something special and unique, thus limiting how many schools a player can have access too... my fingers are still crossed!

I think Lord Frog said in one post, you will also be able to find some.  Not sure if that means you have to research the quests for them or if its under magic and then you find them.

You can definitely pick them up through quests, even if you already have them (in the last release)... Not sure about researching them though.

I am considering modding something closer to MoM:

 

Fire

Water

Earth

Air

Holy

Diabolic

Nature

Necromancy

Arcane

 

So slightly different, but close to original MoM schools of magic.
