The fan community should make a better trailer

Sad to say, the release trailer to this game is flat out awful - it makes what appears to be a creative and fun magic civ game look like an old-fashioned stodgy mess, and is IMO likely to scare off potential buyers.

Had I not read through some of the literature beforehand, I suspect this trailer would have led me to dismiss this game without a second thought.

Perhaps Stardock's marketing budget has been slashed; but it seems to me that fans of this game could do these guys a favour by making something much more compelling. It shouldn't be that hard to do.

Yeah its awful. Its the same as with AI War, Distant Worlds and frankly Galciv2 as well.
Horrible trailers that completely fail to capture the magic of the specific game. You cant just add cinema-music to calm screenshot slideshows lol

I hate to be that guy [tm], but the trailer and its shortcumings (as well as reasons and suggestions for alternative ones) has already been discussed here.

I disagree.  I didn't even know this game existed until early last week when an email announcement with a link to the trailer appeared in my inbox.  After watching the trailer, I thought, "That looks really cool!"  I then spent another hour or so reading the forums and developer journals before placing my preorder.

I do find it a pretty odd choice to have the big bad dragon's fire-breath attack miss.

I was so excited when I got the release email that I forwarded it to my friend, another MoM veteran. It was only after that I went to watch the trailer, and man, I was just embarrassed. If I had watched it first, I would have just told him it was coming out and linked him to the homepage.

Bear in mind, I pre-ordered the special edition. I'm in, but it's hard to get other people involved with that terrible, cheap, uninteresting trailer. Food for thought. I hope someone does make a fan trailer, because few people are going to be positively influenced by that.

I found that funny. How do you miss 10+ guys with a big bad breath? :)

I often post fun trailers on facebook, or send links to friends whom I am trying to suck into a game. But this one shall not be posted, for sure. Let's hope metacritic scores are good, as that could be a useful link instead.

I did actually find one fan trailer on youtube which was ok, but still a little bit lacking. Trouble is, this game seems to be very theoretical/imaginative in its enjoyment... and the landscape looks so... well... dull. I find it helps to think of this a little as a board game instead.

Anyhow, here's wishing the team all luck with this. I enjoyed GalCiv and loved Sins... and this is potentially even more appealing. Although sandwiched between Starcraft 2 and Civ V... yikes!
