Possible Broken Street Date

We are getting reports that the street date for Elemental has been broken. This is one of the downsides of being an indie, we lack sufficient retail clout to get retailers to take our street dates seriously apparently (same thing happened for Demigod).

As a result, we plan to make Elemental available to beta testers TOMORROW (Sunday) as well to pre-order customers ASAP (either tomorrow or first thing Monday).

However, because I have to re-task the IT team to do this, I'm going to have to have us delay the multiplayer server availability until later this week - Tuesday - the original release date - or Wednesday in all likelihood).  It won't affect the single player, campaign, or modding.

Possible broken street date? The post had pictures of the game.

I understand being an Indie and all that and have compassion for the adjustments you feel you need to make, but why delete the guys post?

Yes, Brad, sue 'em.  I shall represent you guys in court.  Although I have no degree in law, or have any legality skills, I feel that my days of watching Judge Judy shall pay off.

Raven, do I have to dress up for court or can I go in my pajamas?

That sucks about the street date being broken!

On the other hand....I am very excited by the idea that I might see the game tomorrow!

Appreciate the effort & concern to try to be fair and do the right thing for those who had gone the impulse-route vs the retail-route.  One of the reasons that I've gone with impluse is that it's just so much easier than fiddling around with discs and stores - it's also great that impulse has been a consistently easy and fair service to use.  Personally, I'm not all that hung up on the immediacy of playing, rather, on the quality of the product. (I happen to have plenty of real-life things to get taken care of before the 24th anyway).

Stardock's concern for balancing respecting the street date with fairness for those who could acquire it before hand at retail - but don't, simply points out the quality of using impulse and the individuals who make it work.

Cheers,

Not just "possible", but actual fact. I made a post earlier--which has since been deleted, without any complaint by me--showing proof that Elemental is indeed on some retail shelves, at least where I live.

I have sent information to both Frogboy as well as Stardock Support regarding this incident. Here's hoping that all works out for the best.

That depends on the Judge. If it's a chick Judge, go with the pajamas :P

I'm only surprised that it hasn't been Game Stop.

Due to... lets be good guys and suppose it's just incompetence... to spread the word about "Hey, release date isn't supposed to be yet ergo multiplyer won't be avaiable yet and not because it doesn't work due to bugs" would be interesting. Or something like that.

This time we were prepared for that possibility. Hence having an update ready to go and having the MP servers DOWN prior to general availability.

Heck yeah! Thanks man. I'm sorry this happened but I really want to play this game.

Hey I resent that I work at a Gamestop.. an I can tell you we have not broken a street date in my district (since we have over 5000 stores world wide my district is one of hundreds though) in the 3 years I have been working so nay nay.. :P

Soooo... are we talking midnight Sunday? LOL I'm sorry. I can't wait!!!!

Man, there is just no integrity any more. In some ways I'm quite surprised that there aren't any reviews on Amazon or metacritic yet. So often the "smaller title" games end up on there right away, even before the game is released, with an array of reviews that generally average less than what they should.

I just hope this "broken street date" doesn't hurt the game like what happened to Demigod. Eventually you guys may have to forego the retail market all together (at the very least gamestop as I suspect they are the culprets once again). Or, better yet, make an "artificial street date" :) A week after you release for the preorders and beta testers digitally! Anyway, on the plus side there's at least the possiblity that I'll be able to play tomorrow (preordered only this week so I'm probably at the end of the list). Good luck to you guys in getting all this rounded up. I just hope the community is more understanding this time around than they were with Demigod.

Wow, that is incredibly inconsiderate to break a release date.  It is unfortunate you have to put up with crap like that just because you are an indie company.

I can only imagine what would happen to the store that broke a street date for something like SC2.  Bliz might just devour them whole.

I'm sure there are some great gamestop's with courteous and intelligent people, but the three in my area are all filled with some of the lowest forms of life.  Unfortunately they are also the only gaming stores in my area.

Is sueing them even a possibility or are you guys going to have to just "let it slide"? It's really not right if you can't do anything at all about it and just have to take it. :S

Breach of contract. Doesn't mean it would be worth while to sue though.

It matters whether or not this was an independent action on the part of the employee, the store, or if this is a chain wide problem.
