Elemental: Game Play Example – Part 2

…Our story so far…

https://forums.elementalgame.com/390900

The Kingdom of Capitar has one city called Resolve. It’s thief turned King, Roland, finds himself at war with the Empire of Yithril led by the Emperor Verga.

..

I am Ezmir, son of Athalyir. This is the chronicle of the Kingdom of Capitar and the story of Roland its King.  His fledgling Outpost of Resolve with only 14 souls in it, was already under siege by the Fallen Empire of Yithril.

“I’m not feeling good about this,” Roland said to Janusk the Scribe.

“You have nothing to fear, you are a channeler, a being of mystical power and might,” Janusk replied.

Roland grunted.

“Look, there’s 4 of us. Me, you, William – and he’s a pioneer, and a bear that is possibly diseased.”

“He is green,” Janusk agreed. “I am sure Muggles will do his best.”

“Muggles?”

“Yes.”

“You named the bear?”

“Yes.”

“You named the bear, Muggles?”

“It seemed fitting.”

image

“Let’s move on.  Our only hope is to find some allies. There’s only 14 of us in the Outpost so far.  Our Outpost is surrounded by a swamp.”

Roland ordered William to head a bit south to scout for something that could help him. Unfortunately, what he found were soldiers of Yithril!

imageUnarmed, William only had his fists.

imageWilliam was lost.

The battle was close enough that Roland was able to look at what the enemy was armed with.

image

“This could be trouble, they have good weapons and they are equipped with armor,” Roland observed.

After a couple such battles, Roland was exhausted of mana. It would take a few days for him to recover himself. Without his magical power, all hope would be lost.  If Verga himself came forward, with his power, we knew we would be doomed. The farm at Resolve had finally been completed and with the available food housing began to be constructed to welcome the people from the wilds looking for a society to be apart of.

Teleporting back, Roland consulted with the Lore Master on what magical advantages they might make use of. The best bet was to gain the help of the sentient spiders that he had heard of. Sage Master agreed and said they were working as fast as they could. That was when the Lore Master suggested Brilliance.

The second month begins

In less than a month Roland had founded a Kingdom. Its capital, Resolve, now had 28 people living in it. A malevolent neighbor, Verga, had set up his own Empire nearby and had declared war.

image

Even better, the Sages had deciphered the old texts and found the location and way to communicate with the legendary sentient spiders.

image Using up all of the wealth we had accumulated, we were able to recruit 8 spiders for the cause.

The only downside is that the world was getting more dangerous. Bloody adventurers.

More to come…

Cool

You want to watch Muggles doesnt depose you, he's blatantly carrying you lol

At least the bear wasn't named n**ger-man. Seriously, how can I take this H.P. Lovecraft story seriously when the cat has such a ridiculous name?

Should be interesting to see if Yithril manages to take you out or not. So many times (including in Galactic Civilizations 2), the AI declares war on me when it is not in a position to do so (it's too weak, etc). Hopefully the AI in Elemental will only declare war when it knows it has the upper hand.

In muggles' description the word that should have been used was "sheer", not "shear" (unless his size has something to do with haircuts for sheep).

Awesome.   This just makes it that much harder to wait for release.    Thanks for sharing Frogboy!

Quick question. If ANY player researches "Adventure" and increases the danger levels of the world, does that affect ALL players equally? It's a good "safe rush" strategy since it'll punish any players that are just focusing on econ and have no standing army...

Always thought those adventurers should be skinned alive once they entered a town..

I really like the spider option.

Great story FB. Looking forward to more.

Finally we see a list of buildings in a city, is there any way to see what the buildings provide (bonuses) to the city?

Example :

Building____Resource_____Bonus

Farm              Food            +1

Workshop     Materal         +1

The spider option is cool, but what is the 'human' alternative techwise?  It seems you are almost forced to go for summons/creatures early game because you will not have the pop to be able to recruit any kind of decent sized army, nor the tech or material to equip them properly.

What is the balance here?  I'm beginning to think I won't like the early game.

Muggles also seems to be able to talk, going by his "I" quote.  ^_^

what do you mean what is the human alternative techwise? Your soldiers are mostly all humanoid. Just a tech or two into war will get you some good equipment for soldiers as well. I think hiring spiders is probably expensive goldwise.

Something confuse me about the auto-resolve. Wasn't it supposed to use an accurate simulation of the battle? If yes, why are melee unit actually damaging each others on turn 1? Is it because the initial turns where they only move toward each others are not shown, or is it because the auto-resolver doesn't simulate the positions of the units?

The reason I am worried about that is that this would be of crucial importance to correctly auto-resolve battles with ranged units, as their range advantage means nothing if they can get it by melee units on turn 1.

Looking forward to more!  It gives me something to read until I get to write about my own adventures. ^_^

Question:  when units get damaged in battle, does it take time for them to recover HP?  Or are they instantaneously healed?

Muggles can cast spells? That's one awesome bear!

Yep, but with Int 1 he just aint that bright

It would be nice if fielding spiders in a tactical battle reduced the morale of all human units, including your own, a little bit. Everybody is scared of giant spiders, right? :D

But we all just love giant (green) bears?

Quoting Zubaz, reply 3
In muggles' description the word that should have been used was "sheer", not "shear" (unless his size has something to do with haircuts for sheep).
End of Zubaz's quote

Not only that: the second paragraph switches between singular and plural.

Either:

"By mauling its prey, the Great Bear can..."

Or:

"By mauling their prey, Great Bears can...

Personally I think the whole thing should be singular, first paragraph too. Describing the Great Bear in all its unique majesty has more gravity than describing an undifferentiated collection of Great Bears, IMO.

Edit: Similar plurality disagreement in the ability description...

Either:

"This unit can maul an enemy unit, causing the target to lose its next turn."

Or:

"This unit can maul enemy units, causing them to lose their next turns."

Pretty sure the latter is factually incorrect, though, unless the Great Bear can maul more than one enemy at a time.

thanks for this... its most appreciated, and does indeed help me get through the workday! :)
