Future Techs

Since the game isn't out I'm not going to get specific but it seems, to me, that elemental basically has you restoring your civilization to a magical dark ages or so, which is fine.  Though I think it would be cool to have an expansion pack that allows you to reasearch technologies that are new to the world of elemental.  Like say that the game allows you to reasearch everything in warfare up to blank, then when you reasearch blank you start to come up with things that didn't exist before the cataclysme.  For an example, I don't know if the world of elemental had gunpowder before the cataclysme, so if they did this example won't work, but lets say the elemental world has no idea what gunpowder is.  So anyways after you reach blank new techs come up like gunpowder, and then you can get guns.  Just a cool idea, I'd like to see.

Goodmorning all,

Interesting to note, that one of the key defining ideas of the Renaissance in Europe was the idea that there new stuff to be learned.  Prior to the Renaissance nearly all research was reading and translating old manuscripts, relearning how to do once known things. The cultural discovery that they existed things to know which were not known . . . was new.

This however is a completely different, and much slower, form of research. and would almost require a different mechanism. All 'research' in EWoM is based on the read, translate, and apply principle of research.  Researching new stuff requires a completely different approach to the concept of knowledge and learning.

This would certainly have to be an add-on or expansion  EWoM: the Renaissance. or some such,  To do the idea any justice a new UI would be required, and the concept of cultural ages would have to be considered and incorporated.   Far too much for between now and Day 0.

Just my thoughts.

I know that but I was thinking a new system, I just didn't want the post to be to long at first, I was thinking like once you fill out all the techs in one area it takes you to a tech tree like Civ's or so.  Though I still like the idea of breakthroughs so maybe it would just be a 6th tech called future techs which only gets unlocked when you finish enough pre-requisit techs needed to make the new tech be actual breakthroughs not just a guarantee, and of course this new future tech would take a much longer time then the first 5.

I do agree with you though

I'd like to see elemental's 2 big expansion packs to be the first one allowing you to unlock a 6 tech tree called Renaissance, and the 2 expansion to allow you to unlock an industrial tech tree.
