Pre-Order Options?

I live in a small town in Texas probably no one has heard of.  No one in town plans to carry the game.  I'd kind of like to avoid driving 2 hours to get a copy.  I'd prefer to avoid proprietary download software and just order a box in the mail with the CD, etc.  Preferably the limited edition.  Is this possible, or is it only available by download?  How long will it take for the box to arrive.

Thank you in advance.

If you select the digital download and boxed version purchase option, you can elect to not download the game and wait for the boxed version to come in the mail.  I don't know the waiting period on the boxed media itself, but sometimes it comes well after the digital dowload release, so you'll have to ask one of the support peeps about that.  The price for the digital download option and the price for digital download + boxed version option is the same.  You do have to pay shipping for the box.  (I was jparm3rd, but my name was changed to protect the innocent!)

The boxes are shipped with USPS Priority mail, so it shouldn't take very long to get. They might send out the boxes before street date, but I wouldn't expect to get it a few days after the 24th, in any case.

I am in a similar situation. I was told that Walmart should be caring it, but i would ask the electronics person to check, not just assume.

Here is the link for the pre-order. It gives the details right next to the prices. This is a tab at the top of all pages:

Here is my question if you need/want more info:

Thank you.  My local Walmart isn't going to be carrying it...at least that's what the electronics person said.  So I'll do what jparm3rd suggests.  Priority mail shouldn't take long.

Is it the town outside of Wichita "The Last Picture Show" was based off?

Even if your walmart doesn't carry it as a standard stock item you could still order it as Site to Store from the walmart.com website ya know? Then you just go to the store and pick it up.

It's currently not on Walmart.Com at all.  And the database does not show that walmart intends to carry it anytime soon.  At least that's what the person in the electronics department told me.  Whether she actually knew or not...who knows?

Interesting its not on the preorder list as well. Guess they aren't carrying it as one of their intended top performers then...wonder if its on bestbuy.com...

You can also order from Amazon, which usually delivers on release day.  It's really whatever is most convenient for you.

If amazon delivers on release day, I guess I screwed up by buying direct from Stardock.

Not really, you'll be able to download the game with the day0 update as soon as the game goes live. I am hoping this will belike 12.00am or something, i'll wait up even though its a work night :d   .

I'm guessing stardock won't wait until the 24th to post the games out either so you might get the boxed game on the 24th or very soon after. I'm in london so its gonna be atleast a week before i get my Limited edition :'(   .

I use amazon for all my console pre-orders though as they normally deliever them a day or two before releasee date which is awesome.

But for the day0 update, won't I have to use Impulse?  I'm not too fond of this proprietary software stuff after having experienced Steam.

You can update the game then delete Impulse if you want. Steam is abit different to impulse, your games are linked through steam so no steam = no game. But if i delete Impulse i can still play Demigod, Sins and Gal Civ 2. At least i could last time i deleted Impulse, i doubt they have changed it though. Plus it doesnt leave any hidden files or back doors etc when i remove it from my PC.

Impulse is less intrusive then Steam IMO i have both due to DOW2 being steam operated which is a pain. You don't need to run Impulse at all if you don't want to, just open it when you want to check for updates and patches. It doesn't need to be on for your stardock games to work.

You only have to run Impulse for the initial install and for any updates. After that, you can uninstall it straight from your computer if you'd like (and never update again, of course :(

Are you sure the updates will require Impulse?  Many game manufacturers (e.g., Bethesda and the people who make Dominions) allow direct downloads of patches.

You can always give Impulse a Try I have both Impulse and Steam and Impulse is a way "lighter" launch pad. No evasive software or anything like that.

Mind you if you start to download 3rd pary games through Impulse (like ubisoft games) you will get whatever software protection comes with that game.

Stardock games tend to have no software protection.

All in all give it a try if you don't like Impulse you can always uninstall it! Good luck! If you have any questions let me know!

Yes, updating will require Impulse and there will not be any standalone/direct download of patches.

Yep like the above poster said. (I remember you from the sins forums... we had such lovely fights!) You will require impulse for patches, its Stardock's way of fighting piracy while not invading your ability to enjoy their products. Its a good system.

Could someone tell me, I already asked in another thread but no reply there as of yet. I preordered the game via impulse, it said on the website that I preordered so I closed it. However I have gotten no confirmation email or anything of that sort to confirm this fact, nor does it say on the website that I preordered.. at least I cannot find it, might not know where to look exactly. So could someone tell me if I actually get some sort of email or should I preorder again? Not so fond on ordering it twice:P

they (stardock) WILL email you at the email address you gave them WHEN they bill you, and the email WILL contain YOUR serial number for the game, and IT will be automatically added to your impulse account and impulse will automatically offer it in your my games page in impulse.

this is my experience with impulse purchases over the last 2 2/3 years

If you didn't get even get an email to acknowledge your order, you should send an email to [email protected].

Yes.  When you successfully order, you get an email that starts like this:

After a very lousy experience with STEAM, I confess my initial dislike of the very idea of Impulse.  But after enjoying Impulse TV and noting the way it works (from others on the forums), I will say that I am a convert.  Thank you for making a program we are able to uninstall and still play our games.

Hi,

I've read that when I preorder Elemental I probably will get the game before the 24th. I live in Germany and don't have a credit card. My question is: Is there a thing like a 1-use credit card here that can be used savely for prepurchasing? Any experiences?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Greetings
