[0.98][BUG] New Unit Type Archer available - again and again

Everytime I finished research of some equipment (armor, weapons etc) I got the message a new unit type was available: Archer. woohoo ;-) Same with dukes, I had to delete about 10 archers and 5 dukes from the list, until I ran out of equipment research.  Also, some of the creations are a bit questionable. An archer with a helmet but nothing else in terms of armor. Either no armor or a complete set (even though for archers, I don't see much value in armor anyway)

Never been attacked by a stack with archers in it? Armour would be nice then,eh?

But a helmet alone isn't too useful.

I have to agree here.. we need an option to disable auto unit creation.. I can make my own much more effectively..

I also have had five different versions of the archer auto-created especially after weapon research that does NOT have anything to do with ranged weapons of any form.

I suspect this function of the game has not been fully implemented with 0.98.  Be nice to be able to turn it off though.

Also, on the subject of archers, why do longbows appear to have a range of only 1 square?  I can't speak for shortbows, but when my archers try to attack they can only shoot things right next to them.  Kind of defeats the point of archers, IMO...

I haven't seen that problem, my archers can shoot over multiple tiles.  It's often kind of tricky to get the cursor placed right so be able to do so, though.

Yeah... I also have to delete archers every time I upgrade the warfare tech. I also make better custom units...... BUT I understand that there are MANY players who do not go through the trouble of making custom units and prefer a more accessible/less micro-managed system. Elemental has to have default units become available when techs increase because many players would not like or not want to bother with making a custom unit each time. The fact that default units become available on tech increases also serves as a nice model for how one can improve their units and what one should expect to spend in terms of resources and gold on different types of units.

I think this is a good feature, I just think the archers being created every turn on tech increase is just a bug that will be fixed :) Also seeing shirtless archers is kind of gross....

one suggestion for reducing the created archer SPAM that the warfare tech give us would be to limit the new units to WHEN the new or upgraded tech (either weapon OR armor that allows new types of weapons or armor BUT NOT on the techs that BUFF existing weapons or armor) that allows the units ie for archers with RANGED weapons short & long bow release.

I agree, and I think that's how it will work on release.  But again, I think what we have right now is more of a placeholder type thing to mainly test that it's working right repeatedly over the long term of a game.  That said, the only suggestion I can make is that they do need to have this system as something that can be toggled on or off in the game options screen, or in the design screen.
