I guess I am a bit of a 'purist' when it comes to strategy games and have always preferred playing on hexes than on squares for a number of reasons.
1. Hexes allow more natural movement.
2. Hexes allow for better formations.
3. Hexes allow for simpler zones of control, facing, and surround modifiers (none of which Elemental has - but who knows in the future).
Now I know that it is way too late to push to try and have Elemental use hexes but the issue is that moving through the diagonal wrecks the realism - especially in the tactical battles. It shouldn't take the same amount of effort to move diagonally than it should to move laterally. It should be the root of 2, or about 1.4.
What got me thinking is that while movement on the map is shown in integers or absolutes (you are either in one square or another), the factors such as Movement and Combat Speed are defined in decimals. There doesn't seem to be any real impediment in making movement through the diagonal cost 1.4 points.
