General Beta Recommendation

If you can, uninstall and reinstall the Elemental Beta.

I'm finding that Impulse didn't remove the file corespells.xml and a few other items and these have a pretty major impact on stability and gameplay.

Shouldn't we have new beta version so we don't have multiple versions of beta 4?

That's a big download. :(

Is there a way we can delete the offending files and get the system to correct itself?

since i have been having the dreaded OOM errors i am giving this a buzz - have uninstalled now reinstalling - will reply to this thread if the same thing keeps happening...

i uninstalled and reinstalled when the beta 4 patches came out.  it did fix my lack of spell effect problems, but i still get out of memory crashes.

After re-installing the game it looks and behaves slightly different: The fonts seem to have changed and now I no longer have the Elemental launcher that came with the Beta 4 upgrade. Unfortunately the out-of-memory error is still there after the re-install.

yes that happened to me too Markus - i no longer have the launcher as well - and just had my first crash to the desktop - although this one wasnt an out of memory error as i had just started a new game and elemental was still only using just under 1gig

Wouldn't it be more effective to provide another beta version for testing...  I doubt all the beta testers will know to uninstall and reinstall Elemental.

Really? It's hard to right click and select uninstall? Wow.

Uninstalling and reinstalling help me not crash on world creation.  And I saw a launcher at startup that I hadn't seen before.

But yea, my fonts are all messed up.  They seems like "generic" fonts from beta 2 and the text on the buttons are not centered for example.  So I uninstalled, deleted any folder on my system for Elemental and nuked the registry of Elemental stuff.

Reinstalled and the fonts are still weird.  But the game does launch and seems to play fine.

It's not hard for the uninstall (except for those with slow internet) the fact is not all beta testers are going to be reading posts in the beta forum.  This topic was even about to fall off the first page until I bumped it!

Wow   really.

Same as others I have the same problem with fonts.

Note that uninstall from Impulse doesn't delete the contents of the My Games\Elemental or ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental-War of Magic directories.  Before installing a new version of the beta I always uninstall from Impulse, then delete those 2 directories, then install the new beta.

I realize I came off as a bit rude there, but if you are a beta tester you SHOULD read the forums. It's kind of part of beta testing. Although this forum is rediculously busy, it is easy to miss stuff.

I did this as well and had no problems with the reinstall.  I got both the correct fonts and the launcher is still intact.

Unfortunately all the beta testers cannot be expected to read the forums and as a result some beta testers will be reporting problems which others may not experience as a result of the uninstall/reinstall.  This means debug files being provided will display the same version yet some gamers having different results as mentioned in the first reply from pad152

Makes a big difference in appearance.  Too soon yet to tell about stability or performance.

Note, I didn't  JUST uninstall.  I uninstalled and then manually nuked the leftover files the program folder, "my games" (under "my documents"), and application data  ("C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic").

Maybe that's why my fonts are messed up -- they are better.
