[0.98][Crash] Out of Memory, again

After I crashed out of memory, I left open task manager to watch the memory usage when I first opened the map that gave me the out of memory error, because I have autosave at 1 turns, memory was at around 500k, after about 30 mins it slowly continued to rise until 1200k I quit after that, but I'm just saying, I take it Road Geometry is still ramping it up.

We're not sure what triggers it still.

So far, the only thing we've seen is that on the systems reported so far they have AMD processors running ATI 4800.

But personally, I think it's something specific to the game being played. The more saved games we can get, the better.

Do you have a debug.err we can look at?

Getting the same thing, on a i7 920 with a ATI 5770... vista 64.

Didn't use to experience this in any of the previous versions. Also the .zip files from the .98 crashes are all 0 kb files so evidently useless. There is a .dmp file from the last crash (although the game never CTD for me, just ceases to function and stays frozen until I CTRL-ALT-Delete). Maybe that is useful.

If I knew how to locate it and get it for ya I'd gladly try to figure out how.  Got any instructions?

edit - found it using search for files now where can I upload it?

Unfortunately, I didn't save the debug file, but I had an out-of-memory freeze.  No CTD, but it simply froze when I tried to get a goody hut.  I'd been playing for several hours straight, 3-person large map.  This computer has dual 2.4 GHz Intel Core P860 processors and 6 GB RAM, although it is a laptop.

It's in my documents\my games\elemental

We're thinking that some hardware incompatibility with our animation is causing it. Seems to be related to certain ATI cards.

Want me to post my saved game, I'm pretty far in, got almost all tech researched, have bunches of city's the game itself plays ok, my memory usage starts out fine but it seems like every 5 turns or so it goes up about 30k until it reaches well over 1000k memory usage, but its the same save game, starts out good and fast but gets slow really fast, then I reset, reload I'm good for 10 mins then laggy again,

I have a AMD Phenom II Quad and a 9600 Nividia on this machine, also using Windows 7 64-bit

Whatever you need I'll send it along

And another Out of Memory.

Both have occured while auto-saving the game, if that helps.

I'm having same issue ever since I got into beta (3.0 version). On my PC it happens very very often even on small on tiny maps. My system has 8 GB of RAM (I'm on Win7 64 bit)  and my video card is ATI Radeon HD 5970 with 2GB of RAM (latest drivers ofc). My CPU is Intel I7 860. I seriously doubt that this game can fill up so much RAM in such a short time which is usually about 10-15 turns in game. I can probably produce tons of error reports for it but I guess I'll post the last one and if you guys need more, just let me know.

Btw. if it is caused by ATI cards, you really need to fix this before it goes gold. 5970 is still top graphics card on market and not being able to support it wont be good for game.

PS. I had this out of memory on 3 different situations. First is during regular gameplay usually at the end of the turn. Second one is when I save game manually. Third one I got in the diplomacy screen while I was looking at what deals to make. That third one happened while I was reading the options, in other words, I didn't click or move my mouse at all when it occurred.

Ya the games memory usage ramps up like huge, but for no real reason, you can have a game with 12 city's crash you out. but reload the same game, and play for an hour before it crashes you out again. and watching the memory usage it starts at a reasonable amount and gets more and more bloated,

I'll post my save game after work.

Indeed. Something is triggering it.

I think you can hit Ctrl-Shift-M and it will print to your debug.err all the objects that have multiple references to them and add up the memory.

Another thing I was thinking about is whether it's a settings issue. Did you guys change your options from the defaults? Could you post your prefs.ini (same place as debug.err).

Thanks.

Here is another debug file (I was pressing ctrl+shift+M during that session but I'm not sure if it had any effect). This time it crashed after battle when my sovereign gained a level. It crashed on level up screen, pretty much the same way I described it for diplomacy screen.

Here is my prefs file:

Hope you catch this bug. :waaaa:

Thanks guys.

I guess my next request would be saved games. Maybe we can reproduce it somehow. (fingers crossed).
