Although I couldn't quite see how, my ship on auto-explore apparently was close enough to another faction's borders that it triggered the "get out" dialogue.  I tried to make a non-aggression treaty, which was on the list despite the fact that I had no research at all into diplomacy, and the other faction said that it was fine (but still no treaty showed as being in effect) so I tried to add money to sweeten the deal.  The money dialogue didn't show up, but was there when I exited out of diplomacy, and shortly thereafter, I was shown out of the game by way of the desktop. 

Some sort of Reveal All The Map spell would be AWESOME.  Also necessary.

Had the same sort of problem as well. Caravan was going into neighbor's territory and the Diplomacy screen came up. I tried to get a Non-Agression Pact and when i clicked on the money nothing happened. Clicked several more times and finally closed the Diplomacy screen and then it CTD with a DX error. It did not generate a zip file though. I have one from the day before but nothing from the time of the crash. I do have the Debug file however above.
