Sins of a Solar Empire crashes my machine

So I picked up the Trinity set a few days ago. Everything installed fine, started up the game, and started to do the tutorials. In about 5 minutes the game will crash my machine. Not just crash back to desktop but actually kill my machine :/

Upon starting up again I got an error report that the crash was related to my graphics card driver (I'm using an Nvidia gt 130m - yes I know it's a laptop card but it manages to run most modern games on medium to high). I updated my graphics driver and tried again... for the exact same result. I've tried 5 times now and regardless of whether I'm doing tutorials or starting up single player the game still crashes my machine after five minutes.

I've also fully patched the game through Impulse.

My laptop is running Vista 32bit with a 2.2GHz duel core processor and 4GB of memory. I haven't had any issues with any other games so I'm pretty sure none of the hardware is faulty.

Has anyone else experienced an issue similar to mine/has any suggestions for me?

Self-serving Bump!

Can noone help me with this? It is a pretty major problem... and it's rather annoying to have a computer sitting on your HDD that you've paid for but are unable to play :/

What graphics setting are you running the game at? Reducing them is usually a good first thing to try.

another thought is that the card is shutting down from overheating. you could try adjusting your fan speed to full speed.
