.92 Archer's/Unkillable Enemy

So I have my group of 10 archers march into the enemy's capital city lead by Relias and to take the city I go into a tactical battle against 3 enemies. Two firebolts and one enemy goes down, each volley of archers deals 1200 damage, needless to say I was winning. However, the enemy leader would not die. With 2 health left he withstood 1200 damage volleys after 1200 damage volleys without going down. 10,000 damage later, nothing. On top of that I couldn't move around the board or exit.

Anyone else have this experience?

Yeah I just firebolted the leader below zero multiple times and he wouldn't die. I just let him retreat and I won. Also the computer doesn't know how to use it's archers. It just stands there with them. It seems their method of attack is 'counter-attacking' but I seriously don't think this is a good strategy, both because if there is ever a modifier to enhance counter attacks, the computer possesses infinite patience, and apparently infinite turns to work with. There should probably be a 10 or 20 turn limit to tactical battles, in which the defender wins if the attacker doesn't kill all the units present.
