[BUG] Game fails to start on Windows 7 64 bit

I bought a new computer this weekend and after downloading Impulse and then Elemental was all set to start a new game on the beta.  Unfortunately, after presenting the small window giving me an option to update the game, look at the manual, or play the game, when I select to play the game, I never get farther than the splash screen.  Looking at task manager, Elemental has stopped responding and in fact I need to end it in order to get back any control on my PC.  I looked for a debug file in the c:\program data\stardock\elemental... directory and did not see any error files or zip files for that matter so I suspect the lock up came before the game actually started running.  Any suggestions?

I have not had any problems using 64 bit 7, been running it since the early betas. Check to make sure firewall in not getting in the way. Update video drivers, and sound card drivers, some times new systems set on the shelf a while and the drivers get stale. That's all I got man, I hope this helps!

I had the same problem (with the same OS) when I started 3C for the first time. On the second try it worked normally. I didn't do anything differently, didn't even reboot or restart Impulse.

I don't have any problem starting the game, so your problem might has nothing to do with windows 7 64bit

Debug.err files are generated in My documents\My Games\Elemental.

Thanks kyro for the information.  Once I found the debug.err file I was able to find and fix the problem.  Windows 7 likes to place files in many and different places than XP.
