SHORTBOWS!!!!!

Okay, I know being unbalanced is a moot point right now ... but for some reason there is this bug that allows for Shortbows to ALWAYS to max damage and ignore armor.

also, even if the unit has more HP than the attack deals, its instant death for individual units (but strangely, it always takes 2 shots from a short bow to kill a party)

 

So yea ... I could have taken over the entire world with (probably) one, ONE Shortbow!!!

I mean, I invaded with 4 units, but only 1 had a shortbow ... and she was the only that got quick clean kills.

So after defeating my first nation, I upgraded my two Champions (husband and wife) with Wargs and Shortbows ... and they accompanied the Bar Wench (short bow unit) in conquering the rest of the world (3 more nations).

So in total ... probably 100 enemy soldiers died to a band of 3 short bows.

An army of about 10-15 units was slaughtered in a single turn by these 3 shortbows.

 

I mean ... I can see a legendary artifact ... but a mid-low tier ranged weapon!? Completely off-base.

 

As to the rest of the combat ... I like the counter system. I think its really funny when their 20 attack Hammer soldier is killed off before he can kill my Soveriegn who is right next to him ^_^ ... I mean, it only takes one attack from a short bow to kill him (not like thats a big deal) ... but yea, a couple times (before equipping everyone with short bows) my units were almost in trouble.

But at the end of the day, I lost not one single unit to the enemy. Not ONE!!! Even in the battles w/o shortbows (although those were harder)

I haven't tested shortbows much, so I can't comment on the OPs main point. 

But I did go up 0.90 tech tree and looked like they don't have any other bows to research yet.  How about longbows, crossbows, recurved/composite bows, etc. etc.  Well, after the crashes are fixed, anyway.

Im not too much into nerfing them.  I think if the damage range is corrected so they dont always do max, and some sort of damage resistances are put in, it should work out. 

Bows should be feared.  Check out 'agincourt' Cromwell has a decent book on that battle. 

Maybe plate would be even resist, chain would get a bonus, and leather a penalty vs bows. 

I sort of wish they would have polearms, ie stuff designed to tear into heavy armor, sorry thats a little off topic. :)

Ranged weapons are still grossly overpowered. At 7 combat speed for example you can fire 6 shots. If anyone is left just move back one space so that your enemies remain out of reach and then repeat.

 

It's very easy for a sovereign to take over the world all by himself!

yeah bows and archers need some special care but useless to talk right now that they are bugged

 

lets wait for a fix and then we test and see how they work properly

Bows should also scale up dramatically in effectiveness with both numbers and type.  Shortbows should be an annoyance.  Longbows should be highly effective.  Longbows with bodkin arrows should be lethal.

Aye .... there should probably be several type of Recurve Bows ... with Short Bow being the weakest and most basic recurve bow, and Composite Bow being in the middle, and then something else (Composite ++?) being an advanced recurve bow.

Recurve bows should be usable by all types (including mounted soldiers) ... while Longbows should be limited to foot soldiers (until mounted units get Stirrups).
