Rage on?

Seriously, what's the point of this post?

I've never been even close to being defeated in any of the other betas is the point. In fact I just got defeated again, I need to start taking the AI seriously.

Rage off.

I won Conquest with 300 points ... with all of 3 short bows under my command.

That doesn't mean that I wasn't training new troops for a 20-30 troop total garrison, but I was only attacking with 3 units w/ Shortbows.

and killed them all (about 100 enemies)

How did u get defeated in 15 minutes?

The AI does little to defend their cities at this point (at least in normal), sometimes even leaving them completely void of any defense.  I was able to steamroll over 2 kingdoms already in normal with just a 2 man army of my sovereign and her husband.  Getting some of the initial warfare research techs so that you can purchase armor/weapons for them at the local shop is a good idea.  I also like them mounted warfare talent as the horses offer a nice speed boost on the map.

Using spells is also a good idea if you have them.  The Burn spell I have is doing around 19 damage and is enough to kill most sovereigns or units in one shot.

REDICULOUS!!!!!

I was just owning Rediculous Mode with 1 Shortbow equipped Sovereign.

I was defeating monsters that had insane stats and/or insane HP.

That sandcrawler shaman has over 150 defense? ha! To the Shortbow, all must bow.

Anyways, by turn 140, when it ran out of memory, I had over 4000 gold (making 100 per turn), and over 2000 population.

I had researched refined housing a couple times, and refined armor (+ attack) several more times than that.

I finally found units that didn't die with just one hit from a Shortbow ... but they never laid a finger on me before they were completely killed.

Damn, I wish I could be defeated in 15 minutes.

Yeah in my 3rd game the AI is back to its weak passive self again. It was weird, the first 2 games the AI was very aggressive and had built up a good size army which took me by total surprise.

I wonder if different nations have better AI’s than others.

Altar seems to utterly suck for some reason. They barely remember to found cities.

Well, I was defeated in record time by a damn huge spider leader thingy that kept respawning no matter how many times I killed it.

One day my main city was destroyed, no warning.

you have to destroy the spiders nest...

Or not.

In one of my tests I founded my kingdom near one of those spider nests.

Every other turn it spawned a Black Widow Leader and one of its smaller drones. My Sovereign had to stay in the region a long time to kill-kill-kill-spiders but it made for some sort of XP galore: when the game finally crashed my Sovereign was level 8

I was playing on the highest difficulty and level 9 monsters started spawning after about 10 minutes. There doesn't seem to be too many in yet, most were 6-7, but one or two were just absolute devastators with attack and defense well over the hundreds, and health to back it up.

yep. Yet they were easily killed by me. All of them.

ah, one time I set it to autoresolve though and I died to a Sandcrawler Shaman, but thats cause the Shortbow bug isn't acounted for in Autoresolve I guess.

Problem is, you need adventuring lvl2 to do that. I didn't have time to get research going at all.

And besides, since my city was practically bordering to the spider-nest the spider spawned inside of my city somehow and killed it without me noticing that there was anything amiss.

the thing is is due to the random placement of starting points, starting resources and monster spawn points. im thinking the stardock crew wants us to have to set some different priorities than we would naturally pursue in the early game. when i start of with a spider nest i know i have to keep my sov near or at least a champion if i have one. then research adventuring, granted this doesn't guarantee survival. dont get me wrong i sympathize, some times even this is not enough. and is one reason why i dont like the auto city build some factions have.

Well, its quite normal that your city got destroyed without any warning because there is currently NO WARNING for when your city is about to come under attack.

Instead ... if you have units, a Tac Battle will randomly pop up ... and if u don't ur city will randomly be conquered/ destroyed.

What happens to your Conquered City

Personally I feel that If your city is taken over by Undead/ certain demons ... your city turns into a Necropolis

and if your city is taken over by Monsters/ certain demons ... your city turns into a Ruins/ Monster Haven.

And if your city is invaded by a simple animal (wolf, warg) ... then you might lose a building, and you lose at least 5 population (and your city is only destroyed if it has less than 5 population and no buildings).

If its taken over by Bandits/Thieves/ Rebels ... then it turns into an Independent City/ Minor Civ
