If I have two shortswords, why can't I give one to an adventurer in my party?
yea, I have to split the stack in order to transfer equipment ... 
Maybe i dont understand, but have you tried simple drag and drop? That works for me.
By "stack", do you mean party or groups within a party?
The former can be accomplished by dragging the object to the circle icon representing the character at the bottom right.
I have no idea how to do the latter, but I thought only trained units could be in a group within a party anyway, so I'm not sure what why this would be really necessary.
You can transfer by dragging over the portrait of anyone in the stack, you don't have to move them out to drag over their model in the main view.
Not that the "give item" system is very clear, but it is functional.
There really should be a more straight-forward system that is user-friendly.
I can transfer between Sovie & NPCs in the same stack, by dragging to the icons at the bottom or upper left, but it is really tricky about mouse-positioning or something, and it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries. There really is room for improvement there.
