Dragons - Unimpressed

Just got my first Dragon, the only thing impressive is their size.

- Dragons can't fly and don't breathe fire?

- Their graphic is too big for the zoomed in map and for tactical battle map. When zoomed in, they cause graphic issues on the zoom in map.

- Their attacks on the battle map is no different than bears or spiders.

Question:

Are there any flying units in Elemental?

my guess is that they implemented them in a hurry and forgot to add animations, effects, polishing etc.

most the beta stuff feels like it is thrown in with really no time left testing the stuff  :)

guys whats the point of these threads?

dont you see how many things are missing?  useless to start arguing about things that are irrelevant right now, breath will be a bit in the status of dragon, who cares if they do it now or not

Well that was unecessary. No one has mentioned an abiility called Maul for bears, yet in the OP says he wants the dragons to breathe fire, he also say how they could be improved in case SD doesn't have the time to think of that for every enemy, or if they forget something. They will naturally have thought of that dragons should breathe fire but now they see that people are actually interested in that.

I have no idea if there will be flying units. Dragons and imps are in, and should in my book fly, yet if there are no obstacles on the tactical maps, it might not matter.

I -think- they've said before that there won't be any flying units in the base game. As for fire-breathing, yeah I expect that'll be in by release since they've already stated that different units will have different and unique abilities in tactical combat.

ok but i think stardock knows we want cool abilities on monsters :D

its just that talking about special skills when right now normal attacks are still to be well defined sounded a bit premature to me :P

im sure when the time comes frogboy will ask us to fill a thread with abilities like he did on spells and there will be hundreds of good ideas

prettu sure no one will forget dragons :D

An how do you know if it's "Missing" or just "Broken"?

I thought the point of these beta. was to  tell Stardock, what we like and don't like about the game!

1. In release dragons will fly.

2. Dragons will have their own special abilities such as fire breathing and various other abilities.

I thought I read somewhere that there would be no flying game mechanics - unless you mean it will just graphically fly.

What we said was that you wouldn't be training flying units.  We have flying units (i.e. over mountains and water).

Ehhh...Over mountains?

Say I wanted an observation balloon that could go over small mountains but not a big one, will we be able to set a maximum Z height if we were to put our own units in the game?

Units have movement types = land, air, water.  Right now, we don't have a max z. Something we can look at for the future.

Max Z would be interesting. Could separate the Appalachia from the Rockies from the Himalaya.

Could also lead to some lush watershed farmland being far up in a mountain range, thus a higher Z than some peaks towards the bottom of the mountain range.

Just from current stats and things ... Slag = 200 HP, 15 attack, 5 defense

Dragon = 200 HP, 40 attack, 15 defense + 50% spell resistance, +50% magical damage resistance, +Knockback attacks via Wings (wind based), + Knockback attacks via tail, (+ flying ofc, + firebreathing ofc)

or well, there will probably be different types of dragons, so this would just be one type I guess :p

The dragon I got was really strong for how easy the quest was...

yea, the quest was really easy ... even if the fight vs the 100 combat rating Thieves is the hardest fight in the game ;)

actually, I did the quest and DIDN'T get a Dragon. A huge bug perhaps ... but I could live with it cause I was already uber.

Actually, that game the King and Queen were both badasses with over 50 attack and 60 HP, riding Wargs and taking names.

The Queen only had about 2 combat speed, but the King had 5-6 combat speed

yea ... those two could kill anything. I think the king had at least 80 attack by the end ... I just stopped researching Refined Defense cause it was getting too easy xD

come to think of it ... I'm pretty sure the two had a combined attack of over 160 at one point

Lol, yeah, I'm pretty sure my sovereign is the most powerful person on Earth. It's not difficult when he's wearing 10,000 combat rings.

It's also not difficult when Refined Armor is a green tech, and actually increases Attack!!!

But yea, I've never gotten more than like 4 or 5 rings, and using them all on one character never felt "OP" ... its everything else involved that makes the characters feel OP (like ranged weapons, Hit and Run, and Monster having too little HP)
