Question About Elemental Canon

I was wondering something about what's going to be official Elemental canon material.  I confess that I kind of put off the beta till it got closer to the "fun" stages of testing.  But I've started a few games, experimented with some sovereign creation and got myself introduced to the basics.  I'm loving it so far, but I notice that every game creates its own world, with its own characters and possibilities.

I'm not complaining about that, but I'm wondering if there will be a more linear or scripted version of the Elemental story.  I'm presuming this will be provided by the Elemental published fiction?  A main storyline would provide context for creating custom campaigns that would fit into an established story arc, whereas most other games would be considered "expanded universe".  I hope this makes sense hehe.

On a side note, I noticed that there is a seeming progression of events from one Gal Civ campaign to the next, so I was kinding of thinking along those lines.  Also interesting is the mention of Gal Civ terms in Elemental  (Snathi, Arnor (I think), Dread Lords, etc.)   A possible connection between the two worlds perhaps? o_O

well, you should read the backstory about the altarians http://draginol.impulsedriven.net/article/171522/Of_the_Altarians and remember that Drath look like Dragons ;)

Among the nice things in this article

The Altarians name for their own planet is loosely translated as "Elemental".

There will be a main storyline in the game's campaign. We won't get to see any of it until the game goes live, though. There'll also be a book based around the canonical universe and possibly an extra campaign of some kind for those that purchase the book.

There is no canonical relation between GalCiv2 and Elemental, as far as I know. I think it was more or less confirmed somewhere, but I don't actually remember where. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I just remember we stopped arguing about it.

Well, the Master quest in Elemental makes references to Tandis (who is an Arnor involved in the Twilight of the Arnor campaign) and Draginol.

Canonical relation =/= relation.

Could you elaborate about what is exactly a canonical relation?

anyone who assumes that there are no links between the 2 is forgetting that they both sprang form the same mind/minds.. I would bet dollars to donugts that we see more links and hints of a connection in the finished game, book and futher expansions .. let alone the yet to be announces release of GalCiv 3 (ok so i am just hoping here :D ) but can you imagine a game with the space exploration / combat of Galciv and the ground development /combat/exploration of elemental!

the mind giggles at the mere idea!

The game obviously relates to eachother in more ways than one. Themes, names; Kona, Draginol, Altar, Elemental, etc.

But story-wise, there is no apparent relation. Compare it to how Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 relates - compare Orks to Orcs. Basically identical creatures with identical names and identical characteristics. They relate. But they don't canonically relate.

I don't remeber exactly the info but most probably it is in the line of "not the same universe but an alternate one". Thalans came to Gal Civ II from another.

https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Thalan_Empire

"But recent discoveries have discerned more of why the Thalan are here in this time period. Apparently Thalans come from a seperate universe that is more chronologically advanced then ours. It is in this parallel/future universe that the Thalans discovered that our universe's humanity will instigate an event of such cataclysmic destruction that it will not only destroy our universe, but begin a chain reaction that will destroy all of existence.

This shocking discovery gave the Thalans no choice but to travel to our universe, discern the source of the destruction, and stop humanity from destroying the omniverse."

I accidentally read that as "omnomverse".

I should probably get some breakfast.
