What about crafting (forging) like in MoM?

Hello Ppl.

i already preordered the game and cant await until release :) till than im trying the beta and i'm watching out for bugs and glitches. But one question is on my mind since the beginning.

Will there be a crafting system somedays like in the good old Master of Magic (i mean crafting Items, Rings, Weapons, Armors etc. - not those premades you can buy if you researched some Perks in the magic tree).

I'd really apreaciat this, because that was always a funny part of Master of Magic! and i really would miss it.

Since i did'nt found something with the keyword "crafting" (except: City Crafting), i opened this fred.

Eventually? Hopefully. I know they've been thinking about it and at least some want to do it (I remember talking to BoogieBac about a crafting system), but I don't know if it's currently on the list of things that will definitely get added at some point.

I believe the game will be shipping with a "Item Editor" iirc. If not, it will be easy enough to do in XML.

Well, item editor would be nice too, but i really meant some Editor ingame. Like:

You have researched the Spell "Haste" - now you can forge an sword with a speedbonus, and maybe 3 points of bonusattack (according to the original sword). --> cost after the "reforging" surely have to increase.

Anyway, thanks for the responses. I think hope dies at last :)))

Rather than letting hope die, you (or collectively 'we' who'd like a fun item crafting/enchantment system) should push for it after the game's release ;)

So how will this game maintain balance with 400,000 items being created by modders? Sword of Doom kills everything comes with all spells available for download?

I myself rather just download super mods. IE Total Conversions or Graphics enhanced mods.

But i get what OP is saying. Using mana to build enchanted items wasnt a huge deal for me in MoM but it was one of the charming things that makes MoM a legend to this day. What ever happened to those devs?

I'd vote for we getting it after release, be it as free update or as part of an expansion pack. It's a too nice feature to ignore. But considering all the features that they need to tweak for release, I understand that many good ideaswill have to wait for another chance.

I never said "let us create a sword of doom" :) i mean, like in good old Times.

In MoM there was a limit of max. 4 Spells / Upgrades per Item, the itemslots itself were limited to items like "weapon, shield, breastplate" etc. so, no more than 5 or 6 magical items were possible (in mom there were actually a max of 4 items per hero and not all spells were usable for forging / enchanting).

By keeping SD's servers mod-free online. In single player it's easier to deal with. You always take a chance on balance when you make a mod or download one, most modders do it for fun, and even the more serious "rebalance" mods get a lot of stuff wrong.

Yeah, it's definitely not going to be in release and that's okay. I'd rather get the core game working well and then add more fun stuff on top of it.

I'd like to to see the item system buffed a bit in terms of available weaponry, i.e. limited by avail resources, civ and research.  Right now everyone is working with the same pool and "metal" weapons are pretty bland.  Have a couple (not too many) types of metallic resource..ventri?   Cities with access could build better weps, similar to MoM, although possibly more limited.  Spend some production points (i.e. turns) building stores of special weapons with slight bonuses (+attack, +speed, etc)

For the magical forging I'd like it to be essence based - keep em rare and powerful.  1pt of essence for a dagger, 2 for spear/bow, 3 for sword - heavily buffed weps with abilities, but perm essence loss.   Always liked to get a flying item in MoM...

Yeah, I brought this up in other topics a couple of time but never heard anything.  I would guess at this late date that it's not going to be here for release which is sad.  I used to play with the enchanment perk (whatever it was called) in MOM all the time so I could make super heroes.  Maybe it wasn't the best strategy but it was a lot of fun.

I don't want to do any spoilers here but while v1.0 won't have such a forge, the Master Quest in Elemental is titled "The Forge of the Overlord" and which expansion packs will be dealing with its consequences.

Sounds awesomely promising. :D

I know I read somewhere, though it was a while ago, that someone official said the words "Item Editor". I'll just drop the subject though ;)
