What do you want from the first official expansion?

Space Ponies!

I'm incredibly fascinated by the technical side of game engines so like a big dork I'm hoping for more engine refinement and features such as X/Y wraping, better & faster AI, more parts exposed to modding, and other changes that would be too big or drastic for a simple patch.

Gameplay wise if the beta is any indication I'd definitely like some love given to the whole.."practicaly immortal ruler" thing.

A third type of factions except Kingdoms and Empires. Maybe something like "barbarian clans"?

Hmmm with MP/Tac Battles being dumbed down, I'd like to see full MP options with larger scale Tactical battles. Lets add the WAR into E:WoM! :)

Q: What do you want from the first official expansion?

A: Spore type creature creator! [...because creating 3d models + animations = very hard stuff.]

I think making the tactical battles turn-based and tile-based was "smarting up" rather than dumbing down. :D

Until I know what's in the release version of the game, it's really hard to say.

Which is really why people should be focusing on the release version of the game before popping up expansion threads on the forums :P

Not really. the game is set to be "feature complete" in 4 days. Discussing what we want from the initial release right now would be a little silly. And they've already confirmed a full on expansion for next year. Most of us have seen enough of the game systems to already have a fairly good idea of what we'll be getting on release day. Yes i know we haven't seen everything, but we've seen the foundations of the game. Also if Brad's references to the big earth shattering changes between Sin's beta and release are any indication...well yeah...there wasnt that big of a difference.

That being said..official support for the real time tactical battles.

Not really.

Yes really. There's plenty left to do for release. Feature complete means they're not adding any new features, but there's still a bunch of balance work to be done and effort should be focused on that.

Agreed on both accounts. We've got a long way to go before we should start thinking about expansions. As much as I love Stardock, I don't want them to release expansions or "DLCs" every two months in a piecemeal fashion. Have a vision and goal for the game. Reach it. Then we can can talk about expansions.

I want to see the kingdoms/empire schism healed and have alignment determined as you play and develop the tech tree. Right now the empire side of the game seems really limited imho. Also add options for other societies like barbarian clans.

Real time tactical battles seems like more of a sequel request imho, but i could be wrong.

Beyond that i'm waiting to play the thing before I ask.

i have no idea either since its not clear what to expect from release

i agree on the guy talking about MP since sadly frog said mp wont be focused so much, im pretty sure he can use some focus later

for the rest, i suppose balance will never be enough

I want

* the rest of the DesktopX API hooked up so we can really customize the UI rather than just reskinning it.
* database module a la how Bioware handled campaign variables so I can have a series of maps that can share *very* robust and complicated datasets tracking player acheivements and actions through the campaign.
* VBscript in DesktopX
* Plugins in DesktopX
* more art assets
* more c methods accessible from python
* A Pony

All of this relies on some kind of packaging format being available for total conversion mods!

Interior maps like dungeons, castles, caves etc.

Expanded dynasty functionality, including the ability to educate your heirs and make them governors of certain parts of your empire. Also, the ability to negotiate with the heirs of other factions, possibly using them for espionage to help cause an internal revolution within a rival's border.

Basically, more politics and domestic and inter-empire intrigue!

As always I will always want better an improved AI strategy & tactics models or more difficulty levels. Things that will always keep the game challenging like GC2.

Always want more races/nations like Civilization III & IV up to 15 I think it were. Also want more options on how the game is played. I'm not a fan of if the sovereign dies the games are over. Age of Wonders Origional gave us this CHOICE. We could put the leader/sovereign OFF the MAP and then one had to conquer the world completely. Then I would also like options of if I wanted to use the sovereign way of winning/losing to take that feature away from some or all of the ai opponents. In other words I could pick and choose who loses when they lose their sovereign and who gets to continue on or have him/her off map.

Edit: I haven't seen the tactical battles yet but I'd like them to be able to autoplay out while I watch them if possible like MOM did it. Sometimes I just like to watch the action or play an entire game letting the computer ai duke it out with itself and sometimes I feel like a nut and want an almond joy. ;)~

Also a Fame screen with points based on what one did during the game.

Games with turn limits for victory. Games with time limits for victory. Games with destroy or capture so many cities during the game for victory.  King of the hill games where the whole point is to capture the central castle full of dragons like in a Warlords game I played one time.

Religion(s).

Killing people for their gold and land just isn't the same as killing people for their religion.

It's too early to know what's lacking in the game to want to fix it yet.

One thing I suspect people will want is random maps in MP, and better map generation overall.

i want whatever is missing when elemental comes out.

Reply #21 Top

Dynasty and random events, two options that would likely make the game better. But it is probably too early to decide yet.

All i will say is i look forward to possibly Item forging maybe an expansion of the economic system or perhaps just some more indepth rpgish features *exploring ruins etc.* and of course even more mod functions/tools somehow would be great as everytime theirs a game that expands on modding with its expansions it just gets better everytime just seems to be that way.

So far (judging from current betas) I want these in an expansion.

-Air battles/units

-More factions (duh)

-Wrap around maps (meaning no edges)

-Dungeons (which I beleive are already in)

Multi-level maps. Even if Brad hates them, I can *use* them and make it Amazing.

Reply #25 Top

What I most want from the first expansion?  The full mod meal deal!!  Not that I can take full advantage of it atm.  But I'm raring for it!  And Elemental, beyond any other game engine, provides the optimum training ground.  More bang for the buck and all that.  I want to tweak stuff just for the heck of it.  The UI and script triggers have my greatest interest right now.  So I hope that all that stuff is available for our modding pleasure.

Oh heck yeah!  Dungeon levels, and haunted forest quests, and cave crawling, and more!  With some of that "more" being the basis for entirely new games.
