[806] [suggestion] City traits are confusing

Right now city traits feels half-baked. I like the idea, but it's not working well.

The first time I have an option to select a trait, it is for various things a t+20%. Straight forward.

The second time I have an option, it is for various things at +30%. This is where I'm confused:

* Does this replace the 20% bonus (i.e. I am refocusing in something else?)

* Does this add directly to the 20% (if I select the same thing, I get +50%?)

* Does this do something else?

Two additional problems:

1) I should be able to select a value, then have to click 'ok'. Currently, clicking on the value slections the option. This is not how the UI in the rest of the game works. This is an important choice --I shouldn't be locked into something because I accidentally clicked (which I did!)

2) I should be able to see information about the city, such as buildings and incomes, when presented with that selection screen.

Personally, I think that once a trait is selected, it should be permanent, with only that selected trait ever available. It's possible it could continue to scale up automatically. I also believe that it shouldn't be available until a L3 city.

Though I also really like the idea for automatic traits that someone else had.

Agree on all points, except maybe automatic traits. I would rather have a slimmer choice. A city without any merchants shouldn't be able to focus on gold income.

I have no problem with suggested traits, I do have a problem with automatic ones. The screen definitely is devoid of useful city info to help your selection as well.

Also, once you select a trait, you should have an option on the next level to.

1) Increase that trait (from say 20  to 30%)

2) Select a new trait of 15 - 20%

How did a city that specialized in research suddenly switch the purpose of the area to something else with full benefit as if it was doing it all the time? That is like Detroit becoming Silicon Valley or Iowa becoming a petroleum mecca! It makes no sense.

I am contemplating the idea that specialization should be like leveling a character

Traits

Gold

Material

Metal

Military

Prestige

So if you put it all in one thing, like your capital is all prestige, each level gives a huge bonus. Something like each level one is 10%, level 2 is an additional 15%, level three 20% and they acrue. With your two level ups, you can choose 10% research and 10% gold OR choose 25% research or gold for those two levels. This means in each city it will pay to specialize instead of spreading out the benefits and making all cities bland.
