Bug Or Working As Designed?

My Sovereign led an invading army against the A.I. and lost when trying to take over a town. Instead of respawning, I got a "Conquest Lost" message and final score - this in spite of the fact I still had two active towns on the other side of the map.

Is that a bug, or is it Game Over whenever your Sovereign leads a failed invasion?

I'm talking about 3A, by the way.

If your Sovereign dies in enemy territory they are dead forever. Hence why Dynasties are so important I guess.
