idea for an expansion pack. Deities(yeah yeah i know)

ok i know that this has been brought up a few times, but i think this could be an interesting game mechanic.

i think that this could be implemented by having a set number of deities, good, evil, neutral.  the way it would work would be you make offerings to them, or do something for them(special quests, declare war on a certain faction etc.) and you gain favor points.  this points can be spent for certain favors from the deity you offer patronage to.  this could be any one you wish, this is not something you start the game with or anything. example.

you have just declared war on gilden in the name of the wargod Sardis.  each time you fight a battle AND win against gilden you receive some favor points with sardis.  after gaining 50 favor points you offer the prayer of the warlord(which costs 50 points).  Sardis then sends you a powerful Juggernaut unit.

you could cast those cosmetic spells and create flowers everywhere and gain the favor of the nature goddess and she could grant you a special food tile to build on. giving a very high food bonus.

the possibilities are endless.

of course if stardock isn't interested this could be a very interesting mod to make that would mostly just require code and a few art assets.

Why wait for an expansion when there will be "Dieties" in the Dragonlance Mod? ;)

Good idea btw. You should post it in the Mods section as well. (unless you already did and I just missed it)

And given that some current quests provide a list of bonuses to pick from, and the Fallen already have sacrificial (100 peasants must die) items/magic/stuff already, it would seem the code to do something like this is, pretty much anyways, already available...

"Bow you cretents, or be smote down before your deity Alliwishish"! :ninja:

i like this because its a kind of wild card idea.  its something that all of the other opponents have no idea about.  sort of like if you save your favor up with a god and then an opponent has you up against a wall and thinks they have you beat, BOOM you cash in all those favor points and call forth the ancient behemoth that resides at the center of the world(yeah its like a land kraken).  and it goes crazy on the faction you sent it after.  this takes your enemies mind off of you, and puts it on the creature ransacking its lands.  the only way to beat it, is a series of long ass quests that may give you enough time to rebuild your shattered kingdom.

just an idea

Heh ... I like this idea ... especially if you can use favor points to buy Shin-Megami-Tensei esque dieties.

you could either have 3 "gods" Law , Neutral , Chaos

or 12 major "gods" the Arcana -> Fool, Magician .. Justice .. Death

or you could have them both overlap!!

So Neutral Points can go towards Fool, Magician, Lovers .. etc

and Law Points can go towards Justice, Emperor, Empress .. etc

and Chaos Points can go towards Hanged-man, Devil, Death .. etc

can spend Law points to get a Mechilzidek, Gabriel, or Anubis ...

can spend Neutral points to get a Susano-O, Cybele, or Titan ...

can spend Chaos points to get a Thanatos, Samael, or Seth

meanwhile Strength points can go towards getting a Titan, yet not a Cybele, while Death points can go towards getting a Thanatos, but not a Beelzebub.

Such gods could be *required* to accompany the Sovereign (or remain in capital) and be invisible/ immune on the strategic map yet VERY visible/deadly on the Tactical map ... :3

(would still add towards an army's "combat rating" on the Strategic map though)

Could be interesting.

At the same time, I wonder whether deities would be better serviced in a user-made mod.

Aye ... I was thinking primarily for Mods

although a "lite" and Elemental-based version could do nicely for an expansion imho

I don't really care much for dieties.

But I'd like to see religion(s).

We've already got tons of people brain-washed in Real Life. Let's not go Brain-Washing virtual game people as well, hmm. :P

I'm going to raise the "It's a game"-argument here. Just because I enjoy game shooters, doesn't mean that I want to do a school shooting.

Just because I want holy wars, flagellants, paladin bear calvary, the burniation of witches, holy monuments, human sacrifices, deification of the emperor (read: me), and mageocentric theocracies in a game, doesn't mean I want to join the Westboro Baptist Church.

:D

actually i would like to see the gods be similar to the greek gods, and have them always causing trouble.  or if you are very nice to them, they give a big boost.  i want them more abstracted.
