[Suggestion] Rename 'Spell Points' to 'Magical Knowledge' or any of the other suggestions in this thread.

The name of points required for casting spells, Mana, is too easily mixed with the name of points needed to learn spells, Spell Points. Spell Points == Mana in almost all other games. This is why in my opinion the name 'Spell Points' should be changed into something else.

For some reason my list of suggestions didn't go through, here's another try:

  • Magical Knowledge
  • Arcane Knowledge
  • Spell Knowledge
  • Arcane Points
  • Arcane Lore
  • Spell Research Points

Actually if you were going for names.. mana works just fine as we all understand it.

But spell points can be confusing, wouldn't it sound a bit better, for something like Arcana Lore Points. Used to learn spells.

Gorstagg, yes I meant that Mana can stay as Mana but Spell Points should change.

Agreed, Spell Points sounds a bit gamey.

I found this confusing at first. Spell points sounded like mana and I eventually realized it was referring to research points. I would just call it "research". "Points" is reduntant.

The confusion on this is that you research one of the 5 trees for new advances.. you research spells to unlock.. spells.. that's why you would need to find a way to specify the two as separate entities to avoid even further confusion.

It's all a matter of semantics... just have to find ones that feel right.

Arcane lore gets my vote, it's got the right flavour and easy to distinguish from mana and research.

Me too.  Arcane Lore sounds good, a little bit speccy and most would understand that it is about learning new spells rather than casting existing spells.

Best regards,
Steven.

Does anyone read the manual? :)

It's called Arcane Knowledge, not Spell Points.

Mana is the energy used to cast spells.

Not on the UI though.  Who reads manuals? :p

Yes it may be called Arcane Knowledge, but throughout the game itself it refers to "Spell Points". That's where people are going off of this. Cause I do see on page 14 of the manual it calls it says Lore Points per Turn, and Research per turn.

But in the game play through the beta, we learn techs, and build buildings that enhance our... (Wait for it.. drum roll) Spell Points and the number of them we have to use, to learn new spells. Just cause it's in the manual doesn't help us if the beta has it functionally being different, hence our confusion and wanting the general solution.

Theres a manual?

Yeah an easy way to read it is to go to your Impulse, right click on the Elemental game, choose open Application Folder and find it there.
