[Suggestion] Unit transformations

I've always liked the mechanic, from Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics, sort of from Pokemon, in a way, of units transforming, changing professions, or evolving over time.  The only way to get some units should be to put them through specific experiences (the simplest being to kill X enemies so that they level up enough).

You could have werewolf units, for example, that can only be obtained by getting one of your soldiers bitten by a werewolf.

A game I played last year, I think, had a pumpkin patch that enabled you to recruit pumpkinhead soldiers.  That's already in place, if you build a pumpkin patch using the mod tools.  You could also use the mod tools to add a pumpkin patch that enables you to equip pumpkinhead helmets.  But I'm talking more of permanently transforming your existing soldiers into pumpkinhead soldiers.

On the most basic level, though, just having a branching career path for some units would be cool.

Professional Evolution:

I like the idea of transformations. I'd especially like to see more character evolution and the ability to train/learn new professions (perhaps at the college or something). Your character could spend 10-20 turns in a city "studying" their new profession or upgrading. For example, maybe a "Merchant" class could start off as a "Trader" gaining +2G and eventually be able to study the "Merchant" profession and gain +5G. Each profession could have a upgrade tree so they get better and evolve. You could either link the upgrades to a level or a specific building that needs to be built. Upgrades could also cost some money.

Scout (2M) -> Adventurer (3-4M)

Trader (+2G) -> Merchant (+5G)

Administrator (10%) -> Governor (15-20%)

Teacher (+1R) -> Researcher (+2-4R)

I'd also LOVE to see each profession have a bonus for being stationed in a city.

Transformation:

I also like the transformation concept. For example, becoming a werewolf after being bitten. When it occurs it could activate a quest to cure your transformation and grant a bonus... or you could just remain a werewolf. We could also have other transformations such as an "undead" transformation when you are cursed, becoming a frog temporarily, or maybe an old witch turns your character into a haggardly old woman for a while because of a choice you made on a quest.

** Adventurer and Hero (increased luck/loot, extra exp for battles and quests, and minor exp for distance traveled)

** Treasure Hunter (increased chances to find RARE items, increases nearby spawn rate of weak creatures that drop good loot, easier to dodge traps)

** Teacher and Professor (increases exp growth rate for non-combatants/ or slowly increases non-combatant based skills for non-moving allies in same tile with at least 1 non-combatant class) + (slightly better non-combatant stats for royals who come of age in this tile) + (slight knowledge/ turn increase)

*Nurse (+1 HP/ turn for units in a city)

*all medical bonuses refer to units In SAME TILE of course

*Medic (+1 HP/ turn for units ... anywhere or within borders)

*Surgeon (chance that killed units might survive battle w/ 1 HP) + ( +1 HP for units anywhere)

*Field Medic (+2 HP/ units anywhere)

** some classes may have increased gold upkeep ... Doctor and Surgeon probably the highest (because they don't have power like a General or Governor would, as assets rendered is an upkeep all its own)

**Combat Trainer, Drill Sergeant, and Combat Master (+exp growth for combatants OR slight combatant-based skill increase for allies with at least one combatant based class

*Combat Master (allows access to certain combat-related skills)

*Tactician (+1 unstack-able movement, favorable battle map, favorable starting location on a battle map)

*Drill Sergeant (+1 unstack-able movement, +1 speed for footsoldiers, +0.5 attack speed for melee weapons)

Transformations

X -> Werewolf -> Werewolf soldier -> Werewolf Berserker (HP regeneration, Attack increases inverse to HP) + (Defense slightly increases inverse to HP) + (attack temp increases with each kill)

X -> Werewolf -> Werewolf soldier -> Werewolf Lord (Higher troop morale, less troop maintenance, all converts immediately loyal, extreme Defense increase inverse to HP)

X -> Vampire -> Vampire soldier -> Vampire Assassin (nightvision, wallclimbing, illusion/blend-in spells)

X -> Vampire -> Vampire soldier -> Vampire Lord (domination spells, summoning spells, less army maintenance)

Dog->God.

but seriously i reckon it should be for heroes only since units can be made and trained with the latest gear.

certainly not for vanilla game ... but maybe if any mod went for a more Simulation or Elaborate environment.

My Vanilla suggestions would be as follows

Warlord -> General

Warrior -> Combat Master (or Berserker)

Assassin -> Marksman (or Shadow-dancer)

Hunter -> Ranger (alt Beast-Master)

Thief -> Treasure Hunter

Researcher -> Archivist

Trader -> Merchant

Bureaucrat -> Overseer

Mason -> Architect

Explorer -> Adventurer

Bard -> Orator

Dungeon-Keeper (alt Dungeoneer) -> Beast Master (alt Dungeon Master)

Miner -> Industrialist

Royalty -> Claimant to Throne of the World

**example

Royalty grants extra prestige in all cities

Claimant to Throne of the World grants extra unstack-able morale (and morale regen) for all allied soldiers in the World.

the benefits of Royalty and Claimant work together, as opposed to Claimant replacing Royalty.
