[.805][Hang/Crash] Can't get past splash screen

CPU goes to 99 percent, but oddly enough, the memory usage seems low, around 44K

I had this same problem in .804.

Also .803, I could only see the cloth map, any zoom level below showed the solid white screen even with AA turned off.

I tried running in full-screen and windowed mode.

One thing I have never noticed before was the dxatlaswin.exe service ran for a while.

I found this thread that referenced the service:

Debug.err file:

DXDIAG:

Please help. This is the third update in a row that I have not been able to play.

kapeman, try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\ImpulseReactor and delete all the xml files.

Check your firewall.

I had to disable mine to get the game going and even then it took a long time for the first launch after that.

You shouldn't have to disable the firewall. Just add an exception for elemental.exe. I added an exception for ELLaunch.exe as well to be safe.

The issue is that when the Firewall block comes up, there is no way to alt-tab to it to tell it to allow Elemental access.  Reading the other problems, most had older S939 AMD processors, which means they likely have an nForce Chipset.  This may mean that we all are using the nVidia Firewall that came with it, and thus don't have the option to set new programs manually (at least that I know of.)

Hopefully you can change it as I suggested in the other thread, so that we can alt-tab to the firewall, or at least set it so that windows can pop-up over the splash screen so we can allow access with the firewall.

You actually can manually modify the nVidia (active amor) firewall. There should be a shortcut icon on your desktop called "NVIDIA Firewall". Double click that and go to Firewall --> Advanced Configuration --> Application. They should see Elemental listed here.
If it's not there, go to Active Armor --> Application and click the button called "Add Rule". You should now be in the menu called Active Armor Application - add rule. There should be three fields with the cursor flashing in the top one called "Please pick and application". To the right of that, you'll see a button called "Browse". The they should just browse to the elemental executable.

Once you've found it in the nvidia firewall "add rule", click it to paste the path into the rest of the fields in the Active Armor menu. Finally, change the two fields called Offload enable/disable for inbound connection and the Offload enable/disable for outbound connection to "Not Offloadable". Click "Apply" and you should see that the data has been added to the Active Armor Application Table. You can now close the firewall menu.

Been awhile since I have messed with it and options may have changed. Also, we may be talking about two different things. :)

Edit: If for some odd reason it won't let you make changes follow the below instructions I dug up.

Changing any setting requires a custom profile, which you can set under the Basic Configuration page under Firewall. Pick Custom 1 (custom), rename it to something more fitting, and establish some baseline rules by regenerating one of the other security profiles. The Medium setting is probably most universally sound. Now you’ll have access to several wizards and all the options under Advanced Configuration.

I'm having this same problem, I try to run the game and it gets stuck at the splash screen.  After a few minutes I checked the task manager and it says it's not responding so I ended it.  The weird thing is I was able to run the game fine a few times right after downloading .806, but now it freezes at startup every time.  The only thing I can think of that I changed was maybe a couple graphics settings.  I added an exception to my firewall and that didn't help.  I tried reinstalling and that didn't help.

Here's my Debug.err  http://pastebin.com/wB30uUhM but I don't think it is from the hanging at startup because I had to end task rather than it actually crashing to the desktop.

Thanks for the tip, but that doesn't work either.

I am on version .806 now after another clean install.

Also, please note I am NOT running a software firewall and the game ran perfectly on version .802.

I could get the game to load with the white map only on version .803,  but any and all versions after that will not load at all.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You may want to try adding -w command line parameter. That'll allow you to kill the process or to make the firewall rule on the fly. (that's what I did when my firewall got bossy, since I wasn't feeling like adding the rule manually.

I appreciate the help, but I am fairly certain this is not a firewall issue as I am not running a software firewall.
