[BETA 3][CRASH]Elemental randomly (or not) crashes to desktop consistently.

This problem seemed to have started to happen with arrival of the 804 beta update I think. Not sure when it started happening or for why, but the game will eventually just exit to desktop and close the game causing me to lose my progress. It has happened in-game, as well as during faction creation. It seems to happen after a set period of time. Usually within...20-30 mins approx.

Could it be a memory leak of sorts? Or perhaps could be a program interfering with the game (Rainmeter, Anti-virus, etc...). Again though, it seems to happen after a set period of time both in and out (as in the menu screen) of a game.

Anyways, here are my specs.

Windows 7 64-bit

4GB of RAM

Nvidia GTX 260 Black Edition

Intel Q6600 @ 2.7ghz quadcore.

All drivers are up to date.

Same here.  Crashes at random times during the game.  Sometimes early and sometimes after 100 or so turns.  It is completely random.  I also have win 7 64 bit.

I also tried running the game with just 1 core but that did not help either.

Played around with some of the video settings and got it to smooth out some, hasn't crashed yet on this game (5x). Removed Anti-Aliasing, Disabled Bump-mapping, removed font smoothing, clip cursor on full screen.

Think AA had most to do with it, other changes are just me testing

Win 7 64-bit

2 Gig RAM

AMD 6400+

NVid 7650 GT

Relieved to see I'm not the only one. At least this means it's something we can work together on figuring out and putting forth to Stardock.

I just started another game and it happened again. Took Approximately 10 mins then the game just completely shut off. It wasn't a hard crash, it just closes instantly and the desktop appears as if nothing happened. No Windows error message appears or anything. Very strange.

Love the game though, can't wait for the release date. I'm glad this is all being worked on now in the beta. :)

I'm gonna go ahead and test Nuemcy's suggestion, starting with the AA. I will disable it and see if that is the culprit. I normally run it at 2x or 4x.

For now, try running the game in a window. We're noticing that the better the system, the more crashes.

also, need those dump files. Debug.err is nice but not terribly useful.

I will try windowed.

fyi if the resolution chosen matches your monitor then windowed mode does not work for me using 8800 gt resolution 1680x1050.

Thanks Frogboy! :D

Also just wanted to say that I got back from playing my game with AA disabled. It seemed to have helped, I was able to play the game for much longer now. However, it did end up crashing after an hour. I monitored RAM usage but it didn't seem to be a case of a memory leak, at least, involving system RAM.

Either way it definitely seems to be something related to the graphics cards, perhaps Video RAM usage. I really don't know though, I'm not nearly an expert on this.

I use 1680x1050 as well. About to start a new game with it windowed to see how it goes. ^_^

I only had 1 dmp file even though it has crashed quite a few times tonight.

Here it is "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8495437/Crash2/Elemental0_805-2010-07-02T21-52-38-845.zip"

I will give your exe a shot now and let you know.

Frogboy I tried your .exe and I get the same results.

I had 3 hard windows errors (using your exe) where it gives the windows message that program has stopped responding.  No dump zip was created on those.  All of them occurred while I was adding spells to research but I cannot consistently duplicate that one yet.  If I can I will add a new post.

Had the same issue, crashed around 40 turns in.  I uploaded to Dropbox but I'm not sure where to get the download link and am not seeing it in the "reporting bugs" threads.

Figured it out, file had to be in the public folder.

My System:

Windows 7 64 Bit

I5 750 overclocked to 4x4.1ghz

4GB RAM

5850 HD

I use the newest drivers for everything, system running stable etc.

I get random crashes in Elemental, sometimes i cant even play 2-3 turns and it crashes right away. It just crashes back to desktop no errors or windows are displayed. Im also wondering whats up with the cpu usage o.O. Its running 100% on all 4 cores (bad for temperature), i have 350 + fps in the game all settings on max in the config menu. i also noticed that if i view alot of stuff like rightclicking on the tech tree entrys to view the details, than i get crashes.

Here are some crashlogs (I have allmost 50 of em):
