Lousy Starting Locations

In GalCiv II, there was a hotkey (ctrl-n?) that generated a new map without the player having to go through the new game menus again.  It was a great way out of a crappy starting location.

Seeing how many times I've started in the snow, will Elemental offer the same thing?

I support this only if the AI can use it too.  :)

All those random crashes at the start of the game . .not so random . . not so crashy.  ;)

Every game i have started so far has been either overly generous with resources near my starting location, or nothing. And the ones with nothing tend to have nothing over a very large area, which i am in the middle of. Maybe a bone ogre or two for company. A quick "new map" would be very convenient.

Yea I agree this would be nice. Forget the AI Zubaz, if the player wants to cheat let him cheat. It's his own fault and if he thinks it's more fun that way more power to him.

This isn't really a cheat, it's a shortcut. The player can do it the hard way anyway.

I'd prefer more normalization of start locations myself. There is a huge variance in the quality of a start location right now.

I like the variance. Maybe have an option to have a map generator 'equalize' starting locations or to allow it to be random for map generation.

Civ IV has a "regenerate map" option. I think that might be a great thing for Single Player. Make it last the first 5 turns, so you can scout around. That way you don't have to re-create the game all over again.

I got a start location yesterday where after 15 minutes the ONLY resource I'd found was a shard. There's variance, and then there's "you're totally crippled this game, sorry". I mean I had almost every spell in Procepinee's staring spellbook researched by then, and I didn't even have a town until 10 minutes into that while I hunted for a non-horrible starting location.

This is something they are working on actively. Right now were getting a rough bastardized version. But it's enough to try out a game.

Though a stated goal is to include a resource near your starting position. (It's just not in this version yet.)
