I was thinking it would be great if we can choose the entrance location to our cities. I have a hard time with how the game chooses the entrance for me. One time I built a city on a beach and it put the gates in the water.
What do you guys think?
heh, yeah ive found my self with odd entrances also. like right against a mountain leading right to my palace...
If the entrance actually starts to matter somehow, then yes. As it is now it's purely aesthetic and making it manual doesn't serve much purpose. Would be easier to just check if the next tile is shore and if it is, find another location for the gate
Kind of depends for how city assaults are done in tactical battles I think. If gates matter, then gate placement matters.
More so than choosing the entrance location I would like to see the entrance be where units enter and exit a city. Right now a long city almost lets you teleport to the other side as I think it only costs one to move into a city and then you can leave at any location. Of course if that change is made having control over where it is located would be helpful but there should be some small cost involved in moving it.
I think entrance and exit points would strategically fun.
I agree, it would also add an extra element to sieges. It should be possible to change it, mind, but not without expense. Maybe a 'gate' improvement that can be placed and demolished?
Gates could be very strategic. Gate location and number (why only one?) should really affect sieges, unit movement, and trade.
