[BUG?] Food per turn broken

So I just started a few games to verify, food per turn seems to be broken, at least for me.

The basic garden just gives me the initial 2 food it produces and then it stops. Mouse over says 3.0 food per turn but the food number does not increase.

I searched around these forums but didnt find anything in regard to this. Is this by intention for this beta state? Because 2 food are enough to build the hut to let the city grow... Or am I missing something? All people are just so hungry, that they eat up those 3 Food per turn??

I also start as a warlord with 2 units in the begining. Do they consume the food and how do they live before I construct the garden ;)?

Could someone please clarify this for me?

TY in advance

The food production isn't per-turn. You don't gain 2 food per turn, you just gain a total of 2 food. Same with all the other food-producing improvements. Also, individual people don't consume food, it's just "paid" up-front when you build a house and people fill in.

Basically, this isn't a bug but how it's supposed to work.

But it seems the UI should be clearer about that in the mouseover. It should say "3.0 food per/turn" but "3.0 food are available for building housing" or something like that.

Thanks Annatar11 & vieuxchat for clarifiying this to me.

Looks like the mouse over is just a bit misleading then...

Strange, the picture does not like to be linked anymore, to fully see it just press right mouse button and choose "view picture" (firefox), other browser should be similiar...

So why should you keep a garden then?   Shouldn't you just build it and then destroy it?  And build it again to get the 2 food again?  Seems confusing to me, is there a benefit to keeping food producing buildings long term?

seems to be right, and what sense do those champions have that give a 20% on food production when you hire them?

still questions about this :)

Devs are thinking about some penalties if you don't have enough food for your population.

In fact, resources paid up-front shouldn't be in the same UI than the materials/crystals/etc.

Vieuxchat, is there a ongoing discussion about this that I missed somewhere?  I'd like to see what ideas are being thrown around.

/agree  but iam still thinking about those champs for hire which increase food production... early game they arent of any use but i always meet them...

Or to put it the other way around, which purpose are those champs good for? Maybe I didnt play enough turns to see when they come in handy...

It was in an old dev journal, I can't remember the date.

There are resource tiles that give more than 2 food production. If you luck out and build a city in reach of 2 +10 tiles, that 20% is an extra 4 food ;)
