Make goodie huts more obvious

maybe I am the only one, but I can never tell by looking at the 3d view if a tile has a dropped purse or broken carvan, etc.  I always have to zoom out to the cloth map to see it.    I would like it if the goodie huts were more obvious/had a particle effect to highlight them.

Some of them are good, but the more generic ones are hard to see.

I tend to do that too. Goodie huts do have a particle effect (if you zoom out slowly, the glowy white ball usually in the center of the tile will stand out more), but it's not usually obvious. A more tame particle effect that either surrounds the tile or floats above it would work a bit better, I think.

I too have been zooming out to the cloth map to make sure I can see the goodie huts, which are not always obvious on the 3d map because of terrain (high mountains) as well.

I agree that big obvious things should be big and obvious also in the 3D view.

But small things like a dropped purse shouldn't be visible at all. Those should just be a random find without being able to spot them from 5 tiles away.

Hound, that is an interesting idea, but then I would totally remove the graphic from the game at all.   Otherwise, won't all of us just zoom out to the cloth map to make sure we don't miss them?

I see the small white particle effect now, but it is only visible when zooming out.   Possibly this is a glitch or bug that will be worked on.    For me this isn't a particulary horrible thing, I just find that things aren't quite as distinct to my eyes when I play at higher resolutions, and I'd like to see someway to identify the goodie huts quickly.

No, please, no pixel-hunting in my Elemental!

Totally removing the graphic is what I mean by not visible at all. ;)

I think it would be more exciting traveling around and stepping on "empty" tiles if there always was a tiny chance of finding something valuable. You could even keep some units on auto explore to scout mapped areas for loot.

Units with better vision should have a higher chance of finding stuff. Crows should make excellent scouts even if they couldn't carry anything themselves.

Please do. I have to zoom out to the cloth map to find anything.

I like the idea of making the shinny effect more visible in 3d view...

I am totally against removing the graphic for small things the world of elemental can be very big making this very annoying.. be sides the graphic representation of something interesting is merely a tool to simulate the fact then in a real world like situation, we would see that dropped coin, wallet, or bag.

that's how I see it any who...

I also have been mostly playing on the cloth map, because it is much easier to see all special squares, but especially the goodie huts.

Maybe there could be an icon like in the cloth map that floats over the square in the 3D view to catch your eye. It could even be transparent like a watermark.

I find my self zooming out all the time to get a big picture view.

I certainly zoom out to get a strategic view as well, I guess I want to eliminate the zooming out so I can tell if that is a dropped pouch 2 squares away from me.  I should be able to just tell by looking at it.   Maybe even color the tile a different color on the ground.  Make it flash or have a swirly halo effect (made with the cool particle effect editor).

I agree. I'm also sick of the handful.

Stardock needs to get a lot more in there before the modding beta lest we be shamed at the ease of adding goodie huts (think less than 5 minutes to add one that is visually very different).

Good enough.  I can mod my own effects into the existing tiles, so if I like the dropped pouch to have a glowing neon sign saying "I'm lost, come claim me"  I can.  :)

I think his point is that your scout may have a viewing range of 3.  I'm guessing a tile is probably at least 5 miles wide.  Will your scout really see a purse on the ground 15 miles away?  Not showing it at all makes things more realistic and also gives you some unexpected finds which could make things more interesting.  I personally like the idea.  Once discovered though it should be on the map if for instance there was an option to drop an item or not pick it up somehow (like from a viewing spell maybe).

I would like the ones that are in to be more obvious, maybe some glowing particles that travel upward like most loot effects in games. But I would also like "hidden ones" that aren't even visible on the cloth map, adds a bit of random and makes exploration more about discovery instead of a route charted out between whatever huts you can see.

Since Mousing over seems to locate most things, you are not forced to hunt and peck. Certain huts do have sparklies on them and are easy to spot, but having a Purse send out beacon type location signals seems a bit "un-fantasy" like.

If you turn on your Mini-map dealy (name escapes me) in the upper right hand corner, every tile reveals its contents. You have to read them but it is there to be had.

Definitely agree with making goodie huts more noticeable.

Another thing that could probably do with a similar treatment are quest destinations. The cloth map highlights them in yellow, but in 3D, unless you saw them pop up when you accepted the quest, you can't really tell by looking that you have business there.
