Dell and SOASE, My broken laptop

I have a Dell Insprion 1420 with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS

Running windows 7, fully updated. I'm not here for tech support however, more of a vent post or hoping someone will have a magical answer :/

I played heavy graphic games on that laptop, Eve Online almost everyday for 3 years! And every MMO I have run on that computer with no issues. The Sims 1-3, Oblivion. WoW..many many others.

I finally had the "No-video Dell fail" crash after playing. A quick google will show that Dell Insprion 1420 nvidia version has a faulty design and breaks down ALL the time. Many other dells have this issue, not just my model.

I played sins for a couple days..Then after a few blue screens and then pink lines all down my screen it got worse and worse till it just wouldn't boot any video. I can hear windows startup but can't see anything.

After many hours of research and testing i learned it's the dell no video issue from overheated nvidia card.

I replaced the motherboard thinking that I had just over used it over the years and it was the faulty dell parts problem.

I played Eve online again for a few hours, rollercoaster tycoon 3, and watched some shows.

Then tried Sins after i reinstalled the game and it went down in the same horrible way right after I selected a map. except no warning this time just pink lines and now won't let me see any windows startup within minutes instead of the days it took to go out before.

I've played Sins on my way old laptop that can't even run Eve because the graphics card is too old, but it runs Sins perfect. I don't understand why it would destroy my newer laptop.

Currently getting a desktop for gaming because this is very frustrating.

I guess I just wanted to let it be known out there and see if anyone else has heard of this issue with just Sins? Or if it's a coincidence it happened twice?

Thanks!

I had a very similar problem with my HP 9700t with a GeForce 8600 in it. That card also has overheating issues. It started out like yours, crashing after doing something graphics intensive, but it gradually got worse over about 2 weeks, until it would crash from the desktop, and eventually, wouldn't even start up. Turns out the card had melted and fried the motherboard, and I had to send it back to HP for a repair.

How my story will help you, I don't know. Hopefully you can get it sorted out.

Let me get this straight.  Sins killed your laptop?

I just junked the Laptop stripping it for parts and building a PC that can play Sins without a problem.

I can't exactly blame Sins for ruining my motherboard, but twice it burned my motherboard when heavy MMO's like Eve and WoW  and Left for dead ect didn't hurt it at all.

But it's strange to me this game could fry the board out twice while it was running.. It doesn't seem to be that graphic intense compared to other games I've had no issues with.

I'm not saying anything bad about Sins at all, it's dell that's evil

:D I love the game.

Yeah, it sounds like it might have just been a bad laptop.
