The compass quest turns into a telescope quest as noted by the linked screen shot.

Furthermore, text is wrong in the beginning saying, "...Seeking the a Compass Quest."
Wild goose chase, this had me too.
If you read all the text, your adventure is borde witht the quest, and those you are talking to realy are too old to know exactly what you are talking about and dont care too much them sefls, once I realised what was goign on, I foudn it quite funny and clever.!!
Yes, I've seen the same thing: the text for the compass quest says "telescope". At the end, I did recieve a compass, though. I'm not sure if it had any effect when I used it, though. Also, since it boosts sight range, telescope would probably be a better item description than compass.
