[.803] Books and (most) potions do nothing/Levelling bug

In the latest beta it seems that all the books (strength, experience, etc) I've run into and most of the potions (maybe all, but I'm sure about Endurance potion and courage potion) don't seem to do anything to my sovereign's or champions' stats.

Also, the first stat I level up on my sovereign is always movement, but whenever I level up again the upgraded stat has reverted to its base (for example, I upgrade Lady Irane's movement from 2 to 2.4 with my first upgrade, but when I go to level up again her movement stat has returned to 2.0).

Now that you mention it, that would explain why my weapon speed arbitrarily dropped .3... I also could see no improvement from books and the like, but I assumed it was because they now add .2 instead of a point and I never got five of a kind.

0.2? I thought they added 0.3.. And I could have sworn that I did see an increase after gaining a few of the same type.

However, the movement increase isn't one I've looked into; will see if I can reproduce that. I've been creating custom sov's with a decent amount of move from the get go, because a few levels for one extra tile of movement seems a bad investment to me. :P

Yep these are most definitely broken.

movement stat icnreases on sovereigns are not saved.

Experience books will not give experience.

stat books I think worked for me, but I will have to double check that it saved them correctly.

The movement stat is not being reset, although it does look like it.  I saw the same thing, and thought the same as you guys did.  Then I did some looking around, and figured it out.

If you mouseover the "Movement" stat, the tooltip breaks down where all your moves come from.  It will look something like "1.2 from base stat, +1 from Adventurer" etc.  So that alone would give 3 moves - 2 from the 1.2 stat, and 1 from Adventurer.

When you level up & add 0.2 to the move score, it will show 3.2 Moves.  But if you mouseover the stats again, it will now show "1.4 from base stat, +1 from Adventurer", which will still give you 3 moves - 2 from the 1.4 stat, and the extra.  And the next time you level, it will show 3.0 Moves again.

However, the experience books (and "book containing ancient knowledge") do not work for me.

Experience books DO work. They just don't do what their description says. They don't give 25 xp, they give +25xp per combat. Try giving it to one of your champions and then getting in a fight. You'll notice him/her gain 35xp instead of 10.

Are you sure you are not looking at combat speed rather then movemnt speed, I had saved a game and was goign to post it, before realising the 3 poitions that where doing nothing incressed combat speed! They are defently working, just not to the over powering level they where before.

End of CdrRogdan's quote

So, you hold onto the experience books, not use (click) them?  That needs to be put in the description, or they need to not vanish on clicking.

No, you still use them. They just don't give instant xp.. instead they give +25xp per combat.

Thanks for catching these issues.  With regards to the experience books, these were indeed increasing the amount of experience other champions would get for killing you, instead of giving you some experience points.  This isn't what they were intended to do, since that's hardly helpful to the unit using the book, so it'll be changed to actually give that unit experience points instead.

As for the movement stat being reset, that seems to be because of a new floor of 2 on the move stat of any unit that you may have noticed in the update.  The core sovereigns (like Lady Irane) actually still have a move stat of 1, though, so when you are putting points into movement it is just increasing her base moves from e.g. 1 to 1.2, which is still less than 2 and therefore gets automatically upgraded because of the lower limit on the move stat, making points you add until the base moves are greater than 2 basically not do anything.  We'll fix this for the next update so that you don't need to level up 5 times before you can start increasing your sovereign's moves :).
