Love and Marriage

I've yet to have someone reject a proposal.  Seems to me it would make more sense to do a check of your Sovereign's charisma against the charisma of the person to marry.  Make it less gamey.

I was always assuming that you've been asked to be married. A check against charisma only is horribly limiting.  Ugly/Surly sovereigns can't build a dynasty?

I agree with your general idea, that some proposals should be refused, but I couldn't help but chuckle when I read this part of your post

....do a check of your Sovereign's charisma against the charisma of the person to marry.  Make it less gamey.

Doing charisma checks to determine marriages sounds _extremely_ "gamey" to me!

I maybe be wrong, but historically, aren't marriage made in royal/gouverning families for mainly political motives? Why it should be different in Elemental?

BTW, in a world that is slowly rebuilding, which NPC would refuse to be a King/Queen of a new realm that is shaping?

What about the children of the various sovereigns? Their children's childrens? I actually wasn't really thinking about the sovereign himself/herself.

However it's probably just too early to tell about this type of feature.

Absolutely.  Though maybe occasionally, as a rare "event" within the game, a wedding or marriage proposal goes awry for some reason.

The dynasty feature is really a breeding ground for random sitatuions. Pun intended.

Using Char as the determining factor of the success of a proposal was just off the top of my head.  Right now it seems way too easy to get married.  Perhaps adding in a dowry would make it more of a challenge.  That way you could collect money when marrying off a daughter.

I haven't seen any random events yet, but I would like to see spouses get killed off.  Perhaps wives dying in childbirth.

I think they accept mainly for the fame, wealth, power and status rather than looks and charm, assuming that stuff matters, since back in the actually medieval times, those things meant more to people than their own happiness (at least most people).

Since currently you cannot remarry, this would have to a latter on thing, and maybe you can be given the choice to save her at the cost of essence (like that wolf quest to get the pet wolves).  Also that would be a kind of weird way to lose, if you sovereign is a female, and she dies in child birth with her first child.

If your Sovereign were female I'm sure there could be an event that might kill off your husband.

Or divorce.  Or assassinate.  If she can't bear me children, then what good is she!

Now that is a scary thought.8(|

I would say no to this idea for the soverign, as getting a dynasty going early on seems to be essential to the game. However this might be something that could be considered for the children. Arranging a marriage is one thing, seducing random adventures to marry into your family might be fun though.
