[Beta 2][Crash] Cannot start the game after many reinstalls...

I get the following error:

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\Elemental.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

I can't get the beta to run. No matter how many reinstalls I attempt it won't actually run. When I try to run it from within impulse I don't even get this error, it just sits there and no new process is created in task manager.

No idea what to try from here...

Dunno if you tried this or if it'll help, but have you located all the Elemental folders scattered around (in Program Files, ProgramData, and My Documents/My Games/Elemental -- that's all I've found so far)?  If there's something there it may be causing a problem.  Uninstall doesn't remove them all (for example, custom units remain, the guy who deleted all his core Sovs still had them missing after uninstalling/reinstalling) so it's worth a try to check and manually delete all Elemental folders.

Did you look for Impulse logs?  They may provide more explanation.

Also, it might help if you included the usual info they ask for -- dxdiag.  I dunno if you got far enough to generate a memory dump (and debug.err isn't available now -- it might be back in beta 2A on thrusday), but if they're generated then include them.

You need to be connected and run the program through Impulse, the game can't be run without impulse connected and logged in.

I started out the same way, this is what I did to get the game going.

1. First I deleted the Prefs.ini file located in

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\My Documents\My Games\Elemental

2. The file gets regenerated after a restart, Clicking on run through Impulse.

3. Now edit the file Prefs.ini and change the line Fullscreen=1 to Fullscreen=0. This will run the game in windowed mode, try running it again.

4. Try disabling your firewall of you have one, it may be blocking elemental from connecting to net.

You don't need to run the game through Impulse (or have it running in the background), though you do need to have it installed with a valid login saved, and be online.
