Cancelling pre-order

So I played the beta for as long as I can stand the bugs for :| really hate how I double click to move and he just stays in his current cell.

I'm wondering if I can cancel the pre-order and get my $50 back? Or do I have to now buy the game since I played the beta? ._.

It's right click to move.

I know, I mean if I double right-click by accident it glitches and keeps the unit in the original tile. The bugs are not the problem I have with the game. It is just not the game I expected it to be.

What did you expect from a beta? o_O

We offer beta access for users who actually wish to beta test and help to influence development. Betas will contain many bugs and are not for an early demo or preview; a demo will be available for free post-release. As such we cannot offer refunds due to issues with beta releases.

Users who are just looking to try the game out are strongly discouraged from using the beta to do so (preorders may only be canceled if you have NOT downloaded the beta--we can check if you have).

From the return policy linked on the store/checkout pages:

We do not give refunds on beta or pre-release versions of software or subscription renewals. Refunds are only available for fully-released programs.

XD haha no no, like I said I know it is a beta :P bugs galore but it is just the game itself. It looked appealing in design, talk, vids, screenshots but with actual gameplay I'm just like meh :\

Question still left unanswered @.@ I remember reading somewhere that you can cancel pre-order at any time. Can I still do that?

EDIT: I get that, but then why did it say you are able to cancel the pre-order? O.o or was that only before beta start?

I've actually just fixed that bug; the movement cost was being deducted when the unit started moving rather than when they finished the move.

There's still a lot of features not enabled yet. You may want to wait to pass final judgement on the game.

As for being able to cancel your pre-order, the short answer is no.

Feel free to post your feedback....you'd be suprised how much user input we take ;)

The gameplay is spectacularly meh at the moment, what with magic disabled, diplomacy disabled, quests at basic level, barely functional AI, etc, etc.  But you'd be surprised what can be achieved in two months.

What if the game does not work on my system after release? Currently I have only got past the introduction screen (before intro and main menu) 3 of 20 times and with no succes the last 6 or 7 times. Everything upgraded, tried re-install, computer got plenty of power to run the game etc.

Hopefully this will change during the beta/at release :)

But if not will it then be possible to get a refund?

XD I'm not saying I won't continue to check up and see how it is progressing but just it feels...clunky. I know I know, Beta xP but all I do in-game is sit there with a town or two, ending turn, making a ton of gold and buing a ton of custom units so whenever the AI sends about 8 guys at me they just die.

My biggest problem is how you get thrown out there at level 1 with level 30 monsters around you ._.

@the_neuro

Have you sent in your Debug.err and DXDiag files to the Dev Team? They may be able to Help?

That will be corrected. They already said so :D

@ John_Hughes - No, actually not, I should do that if it does not work after next update (I have an exam wednesday, so right now i'm actually temporally content with the fact that the game does not work) -

I did not catch that you can do that - thanks a lot

better be Dx It makes me sad when I got those lizard thingies and a golem chasing me.

Also is it just me or when your hero has more then one movement point, it is kinda buggy as to how many tiles he will move?

Make sure you are providing data to the devs (which will be easier when the debug.err returns) so that they can try to resolve your issue before launch.

After launch, once you go through support to determine that the problem is with the game and not with anything local a refund may be applicable.  At that point, contact [email protected]

majiger, you keep saying that you understand it's a beta but it kinda feels like you still expect a bit too much from it. ;)

I'd suggest post your comments on the suggestions forum, then put the game on a shelf until release and then try it again. If you keep playing the beta and become really fed up, you might end up disliking the end result too even though it would be awesome. Better to take some distance if you feel burned out I say.

Technically, you already bought the game. Take a look at your credit card (if you used one), you'll see a charge on there.

For some of us who've seen this exact reaction before, it's been a long standing suggestion to stop calling it a 'pre-order'. People keep getting the wrong idea because what Stardock means by 'pre-order' is actually 'buy before release', and is fundamentally different from what every other company in the industry means.

No matter how many times on the forum they (and we) warn people that it's not a demo, someone inevitably gets the wrong idea and thinks they're doing the same thing as when they pre-order from Gamestop.

It's called a prepurchase. Lots of other companies do it, I think this is the only time I've seen it labeled as a normal preorder.

The purpose of this beta is to test, not play.  Your posts, while saying you're understand it's beta blah blah, tell me you're playing not testing, and because you find bugs and features you don't like you're not having fun.

If you don't want to test (truly test, not 'pretend play') that's fine, as it's not for everyone, but understand that's what folks are supposed to be doing.

The bug(s) you find are supposed to be reported so they're fixed for release.

The game features you don't like are supposed to be reported if you wish to have them changed to make the game better.

Finding bugs and/or unwanted features is not supposed to deter -- it's the purpose of this.  Having fun isn't the purpose.

I've been having fun even in beta 1 -- bugs, missing features, strange gameplay and all.  I'm not sure how to explain it -- best way I can is that I assumed the mindset of my 'fun' being finding bugs and reporting them, and discovering what the features are and how to make them work for me and how I'd change the ones I don't like to make them better.   If you look at the 'game' like that it becomes fun.  If you look at the game as a normal game then yours is an understandable reaction -- but that's not how to look at this beta (especially as it's more a pre-beta compared to other games' betas).

Check back after beta 3 or 4, maybe it'll be fun enough for you to test, or at least 'pretend play', by then.  Elemental may not end up what you like, but what you see (now) is not what you'll get, so you might be surprised.

Anyhoo, thanks for participating :)

You rock! Is it going in the next version of the beta or is a few more down the road?

some betas are betas, and some are promotional gigs; this is definitely a beta. just check back everytime a new build rolls out (thursdays?) to see how fast it all comes together.
