64-bit version for pre-order-beta-testers?

i think the current beta version is only a 32bit version... i assume as a beta tester, once the game comes out, i will be able to download the 64bit version as well, and not only update my current 32 bit version to the full game?

Frogboy stated that the 64 bit version might not make it to release. You will, however, be able to download an 64 bit upgrade for free once it is available.

yes they stated that currently they would pay too much for the license to make 64 bit version

I thought they'd overcome that particular limitation.

I think the game will be released the 24th of august.

Frogboy said they were ahead of schedule, but it is going to be tight...

not really convinced of that (hopefully not!) cause this would mean that the current things implemented (with the few things not yet in) are pretty much final...and a hope really thats not the case, cause right now, the game does not convince me at all...

And there I was, much like you, thinking that Frogboy had already confirmed 64-bit.

The issue is Havok 64-bits.

There will be certainly a 64-bits version of the game just that the Havok part may only be 32-bits.

Doesn't work that way.  The program either is or isn't 64 bit; if you try and do half'n'half, you WILL break something.

FYI:  we don't have everything at the moment, not even close.  Tactical battles, magic system, diplomacy... and that's just what I can come up with off the top of my head.  And there are other features which are 'in' but not used (quests are placeholders; city building has the code, but not the data to drive some extra features).

Frogboy made a post stating that Havok was being a little ridiculous with their demands of compensation for 64-bit programming, but later he said there would be a 64-bit version, but it may not be available at release. I'm looking for these posts, but they were in random threads and not anything specific to the issue.

That sounds about right to me.

It's probably for the best, as not having it now means everyone can test for memory leaks. You guys are probably more likely to be running 64bit windows than the average person so it'd make it a lot harder if nobody had to worry about the 2gb cap.

There will be a 64-bit version but not upon release.

And yes, we're on schedule for August 24th.

And No, that doesn't mean the gameplay won't dramatically change between now and release.

Wow Frogboy, just answer everything for us!  :D

so anyone know what we would expect from a 64 bit enhancement? Im new to the 64 bit thingy

maybe also better performance on the maps (altough that does not seem to be the problem right now, besides the crashes)

Short version:

32 bits limits memory to 2GBs, 64 bits means we can break that limit (something in the vicinity of a couple of terabytes, if I remember correctly).

If you want the longer version, I can give that too...

The theoretical limit on a 64 bit app is 2^63, which is really, really big. More practically, it's going to be able to use all the memory your PC can throw at it.

from what I remember from M$ the ram limit for 64bit xp is about 8gb, vista 64bit is 12gb & the win7 64bit is 64gb. the numbers are for the workstation/professional versions NOT the server which is larger again and then there is the enterprise server  which is the largest of all, but linis 64bit apparently could give the theretical dataspace 2^63-1

Do I really need to give the long version?  It isn't just how much ram you can access, it's how much memory you can address.  As in give an 'address' to.

Oh man, I trust Stardock but I just gotta reiterate, please don't renege on the 64-bit post-release statement.  The 64-bit executable is one of things I'm looking forward to the most.  The 2GB limitation on other games just kills me, when I have so much more money just begging to be used.

so it would be pointless buying it from the box? its not realy when you give us 64 bit its how you go about it.

No, because however you buy it you still have the opportunity to use Impulse to download the 64 bit version when it's available.
