[Beta2][Suggestion] NPC, Units, Factions, and Creatures

re-posted from Qt3

(I posted this on Qt3 but I wanted to put it here as well)

My biggest gripe and fear so far is that every unit, creature, NPC, etc feels very... vanilla. Nothing but stats. Where is the spider with it's poisonous bite or ability to web? What about giving Bone Ogres extra resiliance against arrows, or regeneration? Why do the sword/leather armor guys I build have to look (almost) the same every game? And just themselves be a collection of health/attack/defense with no interesting abilities I can apply to them?

NPC's are terribly boring, compared (for example) to heroes from games of this type such as Master of Magic or Age of Wonders. Look! A golem! He's just smaller numbers thana Bone Ogre, but he looks different!

I'm worried that the only factions in the game are humans. Are the Empire just ... evil humans, then? Will my Longsword/Plate Armor guys look just like the Longsword/Plate Armor troops of my opponents every game?

I can appreciate the single player campaign sticking with it's lore/factions, but shouldn't the sandbox "MoM/Civ Mode" have some interesting races to select from? Will the AI be able to custom build it's own race or soverign on the fly to keep me surprised every game?

I realize this is just the Beta, and I HOPE this is all being addressed, acknowledged, and worked on - but I thought I'd better bring it up now, while it can be looked at. Hopefully it's already coming - maybe a lot of what I'm hoping for will be made active for when Tactical Battles arrive?

I can hope!

Otherwise, it's got a LOT of potential, this game.

I think the kingdoms are all pretty much human, but the Empire are mostly artificial races.  Still, I think it would be nice to be able to change the colours/textures on armor.  Like allowing armor to have textures that are metal or something more organic looking like dragon hide or carapace.  The stats would be the same but each unit could have a unique feel.  The same could go for weapons.

Also the ability to put decals or coat of arms on shields and cloaks.  This would probably be better appreciated in tactical battles, but cool looking none the less.
