ideas to make different races be more distinct (much more replay value)

- make some races naturally dislike other (diplomacy etc.)

- every race should have specific units that only that race can create, maybe even specific buildings (with certain bonuses)

- more differentiation and customization possibilities regarding look of units, buildings, cities

- different races maybe even have a different ki and behaviour (very aggressive/expanding, or defensive for themselves etc.)

- maybe even different items in shops for different races, different mercenaries that you get to recruit

just some ideas... i think strong differentiation between races (look and playwise) is one of the key-drivers for replay-value...at least it was in master of magic, together with strong differences between the magic deks....

For #2, you'll eventually be able to create any type of unit you want.  So it's kind of a moot point.

I'd also expect #1 and #4 to already be planned as it's how other Stardock games have worked.

I thought the points in the list above were pretty much for given, let's hope so.

not sure about that...and regarding the "any unit you want"...well yeah but the options seem to be very limited at least for now...nevertheless it would be nice if there were some unique units for every race with a unique look and unique special skills (or at least unique special skills for that races units that you could also implement in your own created units)

do units have unique skills in the game that only they have? that would be a nice addition like - dragon salyer unit from race xy gets bonus against dragons, paladin unit from ab gets protection against unholy or general magic, barbarian axe thrower unit has a melee and throwing attack, also some tactical unique skills would be great like: xy unit boosts moral of other units fighting not more then 2 tiles away, abc unit altough has a base speed of 1 can move 2 fields when they can attack an enemy then, zzz unit gets an attack and moral boost after they defeated another unit etc....such things make tactical battles much more interesting

If this discussion is based on what's in the game right now then it should be tabled.  Too much that can affect building units isn't in the game right now to have an informed opinion.

yeah, i agree, but since i dont know what will be eventually in the final game, its hard to judge or make suggestions...

I mean you have to make these sort of suggestions now. If it turns out to be in the game later, great, if not then you know you at least made the suggestion when it might have mattered.

I would really have to agree with all the points and more. Just dressing a generic unit in armor and giving it a weapon (and maybe casting a spell on it) is extremely boring. I was really hoping for a wide variety of diverse units with unique mechanics. Things like units that can stealth in certain terrain, units that can teleport short distances, units that can capture monsters, even trainable monster units like spiders with poison attacks and wolves with fear inducing howls. I mean if all we are going to get is what we have now plus a minor change based on race (IE race X is a little better with bows) then this game is going to fall far short of the games it claimed to take inspiration from (MoM, AoW).

I hope it's obvious and all this stuff is unlocked in upcoming builds, but I'm worried now because we are 2 months away and they said they don't want to make any substantial changes to gameplay.

Chances are fairly good that there will be certain faction rivalries - one faction will hate another, regardless of what happens. And I am almost positive that the Kingdoms will totally hate the Empires, just because of what each faction represents.

Also, I maintain that we should have the power to give our units special training for the sake of making each unit unique.

Yes, I hope there will be distinct races.  Being able to play such diverse factions was my favourite part of homm3, which is still one of my favourite old games.  Diversity will bring replayability, since if we get bored of one faction, we can try another.  I really hope all the factions won't just be different humans with different weapons(like, humans who are defense oriented, humans who are archery oriented...etc).
