Opened the Hiergamenon and pressed esc a bunch of times, book wouldn't close. Not the bug

When I closed the book with the 'X' on the page the option menu came up triggered by esc. When clicking back to game it immediately came back to the options menu. Click the 'X' again, then right back to the options menu. Rinse/repeat, one time for every time I pressed esc with the book open.
