If I try to access the research technologies screen before building a study in a city the game will crash. Unfortunately the game doesn't seem to be generating the debug.err and memory dump files correctly so I can't post them.
Same problem.

It seems like a crashdump is usually not created after this crash (research or kingdom button-crash), but in that topic i have uploaded a crashdump that I think was the result of clicking the research tab.
It does not happen every time, but I have had it occur
-when I click the Kingdom overview button.
-when I get into the overview and select research
-when I select dynasty
-it has also happened when I select one of those option from the main screen when no unit city is selected and the research/dynasty/etc. options are shown in the lower left panel.
And as said in a couple places, no memory dump file is created.
EDIT: Also, it is the only type of crash I have had.
Luckily, the game's start-up is lightning fast. 
For me it's reproducible via not having a research 'station' If you click it before you can use it, ker-rash. If I click on the uh, ?quick-bar? icon when I have no item selected on the map it comes up with the error (in game normal error), of you have no research...which I BELIEVE it should if you click it in the main kingdom menu, but apparently no 'hook' for it.
edit: Loaded a game before my Tutor building was complete, used the bottom menu...looks like the kingdom menu came up for a brief second and the game 'clicked' on research for me and crashed.
Interesting to see it didn't go RIGHT to the research menu but to the kingdom menu.
ADD note: while typing this my game is open in a window over a beehive. Somewhat unsettling bug report background noise.
I just had this again.
I was able to reach the research menu through the circular icon just to the right of the portrait. Then on the left margin where the other kingdom options are I selected the Kingdom Detail button (that title is not right). There was a crash and again no dump .zip file.
This may be a long shot, but I was having the same problem and when I turned off Advanced Lighting (due to an Nvidia driver bug reported earlier), it stopped happening. Yes, I see there is a user with an ATI card, but all I know is once I turned off Advanced Lighting, I could no longer reproduce the crash.
Can someone else who is experiencing this problem turn it off and see if that helps. I'm very curious.
Same problem. XP 32, 3gb ram, 12mb ati 5670 with recent drivers. No debug.err or crash zip file.
