Elemental: BETA 2 Available

We are pleased to announce that Elemental: War of Magic – BETA is now available.

To those who have pre-ordered the game and would like to subject themselves to misery, agony, famine, and grief, you may voluntarily take part in the buggy, unfun, imbalanced, flakey, psychologically damaging beta.

Here are two helpful links:

Be aware that Beta 2 is not representative of what the final game will be like. We do, however, invite beta testers to give any feedback they would like at this point even if they think it’s something we’re going already planning to address.

The anticipated release date of Elemental is August 24, 2010. We are currently running ahead of schedule so that date is looking pretty firm.

OK, I DL Impulse.  Registered the Pre-order.  Shut down and restarted impluse, then set my view to demos and free.  Still no BETA.  What gives?

wish I could agree on the stability issue. I can't even start a game now without a CTD.  I have a bug reprt but no error file yet (hopefully that will be resolved soon as well).  Basically, pretty bummed out but to be expected for a beta I guess.

Make sure you have ticked "Show pre-release versions" in the Impulse menu.

I just pre-ordered, installed Impulse, selected 'Show pre-release versions', but I still don't see it under My Games or My Software.

I also clicked the link in the email but got a "server not found" error. And I used the same Login I registered for and used to make the pre-order.

Any help appreciated.

Longer answer:

Like most things in life, it all depends upon how you look at it: Gamestop and Stardock mean different things when they say "Pre-order".

Gamestop is offering you a pre-order in the traditional sense.  You pre-order the game, the game comes out, is shipped to Gamestop who then hands you a box.  At any time in this process you can decide you no longer want a pre-order, Gamestop gives you a full (or partial depending upon policy) refund, and it's as if you never pre-ordered.

Stardock's Impulse is offering a chance to buy into the game development process.  You buy access to the current build.  You play/test the various builds of the game, give feedback, and generally act as another set of eyes, ears, and mind in the group as the game continues to develop.  When the pre-launch cycle is finished, the game is released and you get the nice warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you helped make it all possible.  As a bonus, you also get the game for free.  This is not a demo, and there is no guarantee of fun.  There will be no refund possible since you are putting down money to be part of the development process, not to buy the game itself.

Thanks for the responses... I suspected as much... I would like to be evolved in the beta process, however since I am a gamestop employee I can not afford to pass up on my discount and pre order it through impluse..( I pre-ordered the limited edition 1st day it showed up on my register LOL). I am a long time stardock customer and user of impluse.. Like many of you I am sure, I have been buying stardock games since Galciv. Impluse is one of the 2 downloads services I use for games at a great price / games that for some stupid reason gamestop foolishly decides not to sell ...  I am really excited for a game that looks  reminicent of Masters of Magic with a Galciv like flare....

LOL I will await  release to play but will haunt these forms and the elemental site for all tid bits of info i can snag...

while drooling  over what this game has the potential to be....

Why should i preorder a game, when its not possible to test it myself or read a objektive test report?

In my opinion is this conditioin not logic...

Under the Beta forum...there is a topic on how to do it.  You need to change a setting in Impulse, and then go to "my games" and it will be there.  Just did it now.

Right- so I just pre-ordered the game and I never actually received a serial number email...?  All I got was an order email stating that my CC wouldn't be charged until the game is released.  Have I missed the window of opportunity to participate in this beta?

It would have been nice to include that information during the purchase process so our hopes were not dashed upon the rocks.. But its not like they are not busy making the coolest game ever! heh heh
