[Beta 2][Bug] Whole screen covered by unremovable book

Well I finally managed to get a 1vsAI game going, but when it loads up all I see is this:

I can't get rid of that book. My mouse seems to do nothing, but when clicking the keyboard I can apparently do something, I see some movement around the edges of the book. Very annoying to say the least.

Here's my dxdiag: http://pastebin.com/TrCisSUf

Small "X" on the top right corner of the book. Took me a second to find it too.

Yeah, took me almost a minute to find.

The little "X" has a *very* small area to click on, keep mousing all around it until it has a little flash. Click and you should be fine :)

Just a little thing, that X should have a larger area.

For the developers: note the black "border" that extends around the book as well, there's a big black sqaure of empty nothingness there as well.

It if means anything, Windows XP SP3 IE6

There is no "X" to close the book on my screen.  Compared to the OP:

IMHO, ESC should close the book.  I tried several keys but could find no way to close it via the keyboard.

Win 7 64-bit

Nvidia GeForce 310M (notebook) - latest manufacturer drivers (via Samsung)

1366x768 (full-screen or windowed)

EDIT: The game appears to be defaulting this notebook to a lower graphic setting.  In this setting, the "X" to close the book is missing.  I tried running Elemental on my desktop (1680x1050) and was able to see the "X" on that machine (the menus also showed more graphical detail vs. the simplified menus shown on the 1366x768 notebook screen).

It's not a simplified setting. Chances are the integrated video can't handle the textures properly and is failing to display them. Try reducing the max texture atlas size in the options.

Options -> Video -> "Max Texture Atlas Size" is uneditable in-game due to the graphics issues.  I tried editing Prefs.ini, but it doesn't appear to work (the value shown in Options -> Video is unchanged after saving Prefs.ini and starting the game).

I've tried:

MaxTextureAtlasWidth=512
MaxTextureAtlasHeight=256

MaxTextureAtlasWidth=256
MaxTextureAtlasHeight=128

MaxTextureAtlasWidth=800
MaxTextureAtlasHeight=600

Note: The card is an Nvidia GeForce 310M (not integrated graphics) and supports Directx 10.1 (above the 9.0c listed).  It was released in early 2010.  It's a mainstream (not gaming) card, but it isn't old.  For reference, I've run Civ IV (FFH2) fine (although that isn't a 2010 game).

The little X didn't do anything last night, but now I ran the game with the /w parameter suggested by Frogboy in another thread, and somehow that's fixed all the issues I had so far :) Options, new game, everything works now. Weird stuff.

Yea, I tried using the /w switch, but the "X" is still invisible.  If the book could be closed via the keyboard, it would at least make it playable despite issues with the graphics card.

Guess I'm using the desktop for the beta.  I was hoping to take the laptop to show my friend, but that's not going to work.  I hope it's fixed by release though.  It's a fairly new graphics card model, and I'm not the only one (or the only notebook) that's using it.
